Key Job Responsibilities
You will own the hands‑on engineering and operational support of networks at scale. Your role includes deploying, monitoring, and troubleshooting infrastructure that millions of customers rely on daily. You will execute network deployments and changes with precision, using tools such as ping, traceroute, curl and netstat to isolate issues and restore service quickly. You will read and modify scripts and code, build automation, and identify small‑scale operational improvements.
A Day in the Life
Morning you review monitoring dashboards and overnight alerts. Mid‑morning you troubleshoot an alert using ping, traceroute and netstat, and collaborate with a senior engineer to isolate and fix the issue. After lunch you execute a configuration change in a controlled run‑book, identifying discrepancies and preventing downstream problems. In the afternoon you modify a Python script to collect an additional metric, test it and submit for review. You end the day participating in a knowledge‑sharing session to deepen your understanding of routing protocols.
About the Team
The Network Development team drives engineering, implementation, scalability, operations, reliability and sustainability for all network fabrics underpinning the software services and platforms used within an AWS region.
Basic Qualifications
- Experience with networking fundamentals.
- 2+ years of hands‑on experience in a network‑focused technical role working with routing protocols in data centre or wide‑area networking environments.
- Confident understanding of general routing protocol principles and the ability to apply knowledge to practical scenarios.
- Ability to use command‑line tools and scripts, read and modify existing code or systems (e.g., Python, Ansible), and comprehend automation tasks on a per‑device basis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with effective change‑management practices and ability to identify and suggest small‑scale operational improvements.
- Experience developing or contributing to engineering mechanisms that support IP networking systems.
