A friendly, reliable, and compassionate Personal Assistant is required to support a lady with Parkinson’s who lives near Ashkirk with her husband. This is a rewarding role, providing companionship and practical support to help maintain her independence, wellbeing, and quality of life.
Responsibilities
Duties will include:
- Providing companionship and emotional support.
- Encouraging participation in hobbies, interests, and enjoyable activities.
- Supporting the client to access relaxing activities that promote wellbeing and reduce stress.
- Offering reassurance and practical support during more challenging periods.
- Prompting and discussing medication routines to help ensure everything is in place.
- Checking that food deliveries and other essential supplies have been arranged.
- Supporting the client to attend appointments and access the local community.
- Accompanying the client to Hawick for banking support.
- Supporting the client with shopping or other errands when required.
- Carrying out any other reasonable tasks that support the client’s wellbeing and independence.
Person Specification
- Kind, patient, and understanding.
- Excellent communication and listening skills.
- Reliable, trustworthy, and able to work independently.
- A full driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential.
- Experience in a caring or support role would be beneficial but is not essential, as full guidance will be provided.
- Must be comfortable around dogs and enjoy their company.
Hours and Rate of Pay
- Approximately 6 hours per week, worked in the afternoons from around 1.00 pm.
- Days and times to be arranged flexibly with the employer.
- £14.00 per hour.
- Mileage will be paid at 30p per mile when using your own vehicle to accompany the client on outings or appointments.
Terms and Conditions
- 5.6 weeks’ annual leave (pro rata).
- The successful applicant will be employed on a six-month probationary period.
- PVG membership and satisfactory references are required.
