About the Role

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Disability Advocate to join a purpose-driven organisation dedicated to supporting and empowering people with disability across the Northern Territory. This diverse role combines individual advocacy, policy development, community engagement and stakeholder collaboration.

You will work closely with people with disability, their families, carers and service providers to promote rights, improve access to services and supports, and contribute to positive systemic change across the sector. The role is ideal for someone with strong communication and relationship-building skills who is passionate about social justice, inclusion and achieving positive outcomes for people with disability.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide advocacy and support to people with disabilities across the Northern Territory
- Assist individuals to understand their rights and access appropriate services and supports
- Support clients to navigate complex systems, including the NDIS
- Maintain accurate case notes, records and reporting documentation
- Conduct research and contribute to policy, advocacy and sector improvement initiatives
- Prepare reports, submissions, briefing papers and policy responses
- Deliver training, education and community awareness activities
- Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders across the disability and community services sectors
- Represent the organisation at meetings, forums and community events

About You – Essential





- Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in Disability, Health, Social Work, Education or a related field
- Demonstrated experience in disability advocacy, community services or the NDIS sector
- Strong policy analysis, research and report-writing skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Sound understanding of disability rights, legislation and service systems
- Experience working with people with disability and diverse communities
- Ability to build positive relationships with clients, stakeholders and community groups
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities

Desirable

- Experience delivering training, workshops or community education programs
- High-level stakeholder engagement, negotiation and conflict-resolution skills
- Experience using client management systems and Microsoft Office applications
- Knowledge of the Northern Territory disability sector and NDIS landscape

Requirements

- Current NT Ochre Card (or ability to obtain)
- National Criminal History Check
- Current NT C Class Driver's Licence
- Evidence of relevant vaccinations as required for disability services
