The position of Allied Health Mental Health Allied Health Professional will deliver gender affirming healthcare services as part of an interdisciplinary team to optimise outcomes for children and young people experiencing challenges in the development of their gender identity. Deliver competent mental health services as a member of a hospital-based multi-disciplinary team, to optimise psycho-social outcomes for children and young people who present with routine and complex mental health problems, and their families and carers.
About The Team
The Queensland Children's Gender Service (QCGS) sits within the integrated Child & Youth Mental Health Service providing specialist outpatient care at Queensland Children's Hospital and statewide through telehealth and local partnerships. The aim of the QCGS is to improve the health, wellbeing and function of Queensland children diverse in gender identity through affirmative, family focused, interdisciplinary assessment and specialist care. Being trans or gender diverse is viewed as part of the natural spectrum of human diversity by Children's Health Queensland and the clinical guidelines that inform our care.
About The Role
In this role you will deliver quality outcomes for children, young people and families (Leader of Self) in accordance with the Children's Health Queensland Leadership Excellence Framework and the Queensland Public Service and the CHQ values. Your contribution will include:
Clinical Practice
- Deliver clinical services with children and young people who experience gender incongruence in accordance with the discipline specific Code of Ethics and the National Practice Standards for the Mental Health Workforce. This includes:
- Facilitate group educational seminars for families, carers, and young people
- Provide assessment of gender dysphoria in addition to the risk and protective factors known to impact on gender dysphoria with the view to develop interventions and care plans that seek to reduce clinical distress in collaboration with the child, their family, key stakeholders and the inter-disciplinary team
- Provision of reports consistent with discipline and Queensland Health (QH) standards
- Referral, liaison, and interagency collaborative care planning
- Advocacy for young people and their families/carers
