Norton Gold Fields is one of Australia’s largest domestic gold producers, with mining and processing operations in Western Australia’s world-class Kalgoorlie Goldfields region. We are continuing to progress development plans across a series of expansion projects in the region.

Our vision is to be the leading gold producer, setting the industry benchmark in safety, teamwork, innovation, operational efficiency and cost control.

About the role

Norton Gold Fields is seeking a Senior UG Mine Planning Engineer to join our Technical Services team.

This role will lead underground mine planning and project study work, including life-of-mine planning, mine design, scheduling, cost modelling, technical evaluations and project studies.

You will provide practical planning support to help underground operations achieve protected production, budget and long‑term business objectives, while working closely with geology, geotechnical, survey, ventilation, operations and finance teams.

What you’ll be doing

- Undertake and support underground project studies, including mine design, scheduling, cost estimation and economic evaluation.
- Develop and maintain practical life‑of‑mine plans that support operational and business objectives.
- Prepare underground development, production and infrastructure designs.

- Complete stope optimisation, cut‑off grade analysis and mining scenario assessments.
- Prepare annual budgets, forecasts and long‑term production schedules.
- Develop capital and operating cost inputs for project evaluations and business cases.
- Identify key risks, constraints and opportunities within mine plans and project studies.
- Work closely with geology, geotechnical, survey, ventilation, operations and finance teams.
- Ensure planning assumptions, designs and schedules are practical, clearly documented and technically sound.
- Deliver planning and study work within agreed timeframes.
- Provide technical support and guidance to site engineers and less‑experienced team members where required.
- Assist with technical reviews, due diligence and other underground planning work as required.
- Promote a strong safety culture through visible leadership and active participation in site initiatives.

What we’re looking for

- Bachelor or Master of Mining Engineering.
- Minimum 3–5 years’ underground mining experience, including mine planning experience.
- Candidates with less experience may be considered where they demonstrate strong technical capability in underground planning and project studies.
- Experience in long‑term mine planning, mine design, scheduling and project evaluation.

- Understanding of underground mining methods, geology, geotechnical requirements and production practices.
- Knowledge of risk assessment and relevant Western Australian mining safety legislation.
- Competent user of Deswik software.
- Competent in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Experience in cost modelling or economic evaluation is desirable.
- Current unencumbered WA C or HR class driver’s licence.
- First Aid Certificate desirable.
- WA First Class Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency desirable.

What we offer

- Permanent full‑time role with immediate start available.
- Excellent remuneration package with additional allowances.
- Receive up to 10% short‑term incentive payment (STIP) of your base salary.
- Fully covered family private health insurance through GU Health Complete Gold Cover or an allowance of $4.8k.
- Fully covered Death and Total & Permanent Disability (TPD) insurance or an allowance.
- Pro‑rata long service leave after 5 years of service and entitlement to 13 weeks paid long service leave after 10 years of service.
- Opportunities for learning and development through various training programs provided by the company.
- Work in a team with a growth mindset, where you are supported to bring out your best.
