Are you a Registered Nurse/Midwife with excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, and a passion for delivering high-quality patient care? Gold Coast Private Hospital is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join our Special Care Nursery on a casual basis.

With 22 operating theatres, Gold Coast Private Hospital offers a wide range of specialties including, but not limited to, 24/7 Emergency Care, Medical Services, Orthopaedics, Bariatrics, Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat), General Surgery, Obstetrics, Cardiac Care, and Oncology.

The Department
Our maternity unit is a 25‑bed post/antenatal/gynaecology ward with 5 birthing suite rooms. Supporting this service is our 9‑cot level 4 Special Care Nursery.
The SCN operates as a Level 4 service under the Queensland Clinical Services Capability Framework (CSCF), which includes, but is not limited to caring for babies born at 32 weeks' gestation and birth weight of ≥1500 grams. It comprises a High Dependency Unit (HDU) which provides care for babies who meet criteria, providing but not limited to:
- Minimally Invasive Surfactant (MIST)
- Humidified high flow nasal cannula oxygen
- Low flow oxygen
Purpose of the role
The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing quality nursing services within a health service setting, consulting with the Nurse Unit Manager, Clinical Nurse Consultant/Educator or team leader in the coordination and standards of care for patients within the unit. As the Registered Nurse, you will demonstrate competence in the provision of nursing care as specified by registration requirements, NMBA standards and codes, educational preparation, relevant legislation and context of care.
Your duties will include:
- Monitoring neonates and recording observations
- Daily care of babies in SCN
- Supporting and assisting with feeding of babies
- Supporting families with bonding during their stay
- Use of CPAP equipment
- Ability to work shift work
- Current Registered Nurse with AHPRA
- Minimum of 2 years neonatal nursing level 4 nursery experience
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and unsupervised in the Special Care Nursery
- Commitment to Quality Patient Care
- Compliance with ACQSHC National standards
- Sound clinical decision making and problem‑solving skills
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Works well independently and within a team
- Intermediate computer skills
- Post graduate qualifications in neonatal nursing (or working towards)
