About the Role

The position provides psychological services to children, families and carers in the Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) services, with a primary focus on the Aboriginal Child Assessment (ACA) Clinic. The FASD services provide specialist, multidisciplinary diagnostic assessments for children with prenatal alcohol exposure, in accordance with the Australian FASD Diagnostic Guidelines. These children often demonstrate complex neurological, developmental, and/or behavioural symptoms and may also have histories of trauma and/or out‑of‑home care. In addition to clinical assessment, the service delivers education, clinical training and resources regarding high‑risk FASD presentations and diagnostic criteria to community services and health professionals.

The focus of the position is to provide evidence‑based psychological services to Aboriginal children who present with cognitive, neuropsychological and behavioural features associated with FASD and their families/carers. The role contributes to comprehensive multi‑disciplinary assessment and supports accurate diagnosis and care planning.

Key Responsibilities

- Engage in psychological work requiring advanced knowledge and skills
- Conduct psychological assessments and provide meaningful feedback as per the model of care and the Australian Guidelines for the Assessment and Diagnosis of FASD (2025), including:




- Comprehensive assessment and characterisation of neurodevelopmental functioning (including cognitive abilities, intellectual functioning, behaviour, social communication, academic skills, and adaptive functioning) using appropriate culturally safe and responsive tools and practices
- Contribute to multidisciplinary formulation and diagnostic decision‑making, including consideration of differential diagnoses and alternative explanations for presenting difficulties (e.g. anxiety, trauma, or psychosocial stressors)
- Liaise with external stakeholders (e.g., schools and educational services) to gather relevant background information on the child’s developmental history and current functioning, and identify any additional screening or assessment needs

- Prepare psychological assessment reports, and provide effective and timely verbal and written feedback to referrers, children, families, and others, as appropriate, including preparing documentation for Disability Inclusion applications and NDIS funding
- Use diagnosis, formulation, and children’s/families’/carers’ preferences to develop and deliver effective, evidence‑based psychological interventions as per the model of care.
