Category Lead – Energy Solutions

The Recruitment People are partnering with a growing national organisation to recruit a Category Lead to join its Purchasing and Supply Chain leadership team.

The role:
This is a commercial role for someone who enjoys taking ownership of a category, shaping supplier strategy, influencing buying decisions and driving long-term business outcomes.

Reporting into senior leadership, you will play a key role in determining what products are sourced, which suppliers are partnered with, how inventory is managed and where future growth opportunities exist. This role combines category management, procurement, supplier engagement and strategic planning, making it well suited to someone who enjoys balancing commercial outcomes with operational performance.

You will provide direction across planning and procurement functions, working closely with internal stakeholders to ensure the business is well positioned to support future growth.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and execute category strategies aligned to business objectives
- Influence buying decisions, supplier selection and product portfolio development
- Build and manage strategic supplier relationships both locally and internationally
- Lead commercial negotiations, supplier reviews and contract discussions
- Identify opportunities to improve cost, margin, service levels and supply continuity
- Work closely with planning teams to optimise inventory, forecasting and stock performance
- Monitor market trends, emerging technologies and competitor activity
- Evaluate new suppliers, products and commercial opportunities




- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across procurement and supply chain activities
- Provide leadership, guidance and support across planning and purchasing functions
- Travel domestically and internationally as required, including supplier visits, factory visits and industry events

About You
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

- Strong experience in category management, procurement or strategic sourcing
- Proven ability to negotiate and manage supplier relationships
- Commercially focused decision-making skills
- Experience managing inventory, forecasting or supply planning activities
- Robust analytical and problem-solving capability
- The ability to influence stakeholders across multiple business functions
- Experience leading teams or providing leadership across procurement and planning functions
- A strategic mindset with the ability to see the bigger picture

Experience within technical, industrial, electrical, energy, manufacturing, infrastructure or distribution environments will be highly regarded.
