Job Description
Newland Fence Pty Ltd We're looking for a skilled and reliable Landscape Gardener to join our team. You'll be responsible for creating, maintaining, and enhancing outdoor spaces — from planting and lawn care to hardscape construction and tree maintenance.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who takes pride in their craft and enjoys working outdoors. You'll work across a variety of residential and commercial sites, often as part of a small team, ensuring every project is completed to a high standard. If you're passionate about horticulture and enjoy seeing a landscape come together from concept to completion, we'd love to hear from you.
Benefits We believe in looking after the people who help our landscapes thrive. Alongside competitive pay, we offer superannuation contributions to support your long-term financial future, a rewards and recognition program that celebrates hard work and outstanding contributions, and salary packaging options to help you get more value from your pay.
It's our way of ensuring that as you help our clients' gardens grow, your career and wellbeing grow too. Task & responsibilities Read and apply landscape plans, drawings, and specifications to build and maintain residential, commercial, and public landscape projects. Prepare sites for landscaping by clearing vegetation and debris, grading and levelling the ground, and evaluating soil conditions.
Choose suitable plants, trees, shrubs, flowers, turf, paving, and other materials to suit each project's needs.
Prepare garden beds and growing areas by cultivating and fertilising soil, applying mulch, and improving drainage. Plant and transplant trees, shrubs, hedges, flowers, ground covers, and other vegetation in line with design plans.
Lay and establish natural and instant turf, preparing and maintaining lawn areas. Build hard landscaping elements such as paths, retaining walls, edging, steps, driveways, pergolas, decks, fences, trellises, ponds, and water features. Set up irrigation and drainage systems to support productive watering and long-term landscape health.
Operate and service landscaping equipment and machinery, including excavators, bobcats, compactors, chainsaws, hedge trimmers, mowers, and brush cutters. Trim and prune trees, shrubs, and hedges to encourage healthy growth and preserve the desired appearance. Safely apply fertilisers, soil conditioners, herbicides, and pesticides to keep gardens healthy and manage weeds, pests, and disease.
Track plant health and suggest appropriate treatments and ongoing maintenance plans. Carry out routine garden upkeep, including mowing, edging, weeding, mulching, watering, trimming, and seasonal planting. Take site measurements, estimate material needs, and arrange materials and equipment for each job.
Carry out all work in accordance with WHS requirements, environmental regulations,
and project specifications. Communicate with clients, supervisors, suppliers, and other trades to coordinate work and deliver project outcomes. Review finished projects to confirm quality of work and client satisfaction.
Qualification & experience 2 (two) years of hands-on experience in landscaping, gardening, or horticultural work, including both construction and maintenance tasks. Demonstrated experience reading and interpreting landscape plans, drawings, and technical specifications. Sound knowledge of plant species, soil types, and turf varieties suited to different climates and site conditions.
Practical experience operating landscaping machinery and power tools, such as excavators, bobcats, mowers, chainsaws, and hedge trimmers. Experience installing irrigation, drainage, and hard landscaping features (paving, retaining walls, decking, fencing, etc.) is highly regarded. A current driver's licence Knowledge of workplace health and safety practices, including safe handling of chemicals, fertilisers, and equipment.
Good physical fitness and the ability to perform manual labour outdoors in varying weather conditions. Robust attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship. Good communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with clients and other tradespeople.
