Esperance

The DBCA Esperance District covers more than 1,000 km of breathtaking coastline, stretching from Starvation Bay to Eucla on the edge of the iconic Nullarbor Plain, at the WA/SA border. The district includes three of the four current South Coast Marine Parks, spanning almost two million hectares of Sea Country and supporting an extraordinary marine ecosystem of kelp forests, reefs, ruby seadragons, southern right whales, seals, sea lions and significant fisheries.

We are currently seeking a Senior Ranger (Marine) to join our newly established marine team and lead a small team of Aboriginal Mirning Marine Rangers in implementing the Mirning Marine Park Management Plan, in joint management with the Western Australia Mirning People Aboriginal Corporation (WAMPAC), across the marine park area from Point Dover at the Baxter Cliffs to Eucla.

Initially based in Esperance with a move to Eucla once accommodation and work centre have been built. Eucla offers a truly unique Australian lifestyle, and this position offers an opportunity to live and work in one of the country's most remote and fascinating coastal communities, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes,

wide open spaces and unforgettable sunsets.

Under the direction of the Marine Park Coordinator, this position leads marine and coastal conservation programmed operational activities in the Esperance District, including:

- The delivery of the annual marine and coastal works program consistent with the Marine Park Management Plan mainly for the Mirning Marine Park, as well as for Western Bight Marine Park and Wudjari Marine Park when required.
- Cultural heritage monitoring in partnership with Mirning Peoples and the Western Australian Mirning People Aboriginal Corporation (WAMPAC).
- Supervision and career development of the Aboriginal Marine Ranger team.
- Undertaking compliance patrols and maintaining departmental equipment, infrastructure and vessels.
- Assisting with developing and delivering community education and interpretive works programs.

The successful applicant will be required to possess or obtain a current and satisfactory National Police Check prior to commencement.
