Wildlife Specialist Senior
Salary: $33.34 per hour | Part time
Location: Paradise Country, Oxenford, Gold Coast
Paradise Country is seeking an experienced Wildlife Specialist Senior to join our dedicated Wildlife team. This role involves working with a diverse collection of native and exotic wildlife and livestock, providing expert husbandry, enrichment, behavioural management, and supporting guest experiences through education, presentations and encounters. Paradise Country hosts more than 20 species and is part of conservation initiatives such as the Save‑A‑Mate program.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing exceptional daily husbandry, enrichment and welfare care for a diverse animal collection.
- Recognising individual animal behaviours and traits to support secure and effective animal handling.
- Handling wildlife for guest encounters, animal presentations and photo opportunities.
- Delivering engaging educational talks, presentations and interactive experiences that inspire guests.
- Applying positive reinforcement training, conditioning, and behavioural enrichment techniques to support animal well‑being.
- Assisting with exhibit maintenance to ensure high standards of animal welfare and presentation.
- Supporting departmental administration including animal records, specimen reporting, daily task scheduling and enrichment planning.
- Preparing veterinary reports and liaising with veterinary staff when required.
- Assisting in training and development of wildlife team members in animal care and husbandry practices.
- Ensuring equipment is maintained, operational and reported when repairs or replacement are required.
- Collaborating with the Curator and broader Paradise Country team to deliver exceptional guest experiences.
What We’re Looking For
- Demonstrated experience working with native and/or exotic wildlife in a zoological, wildlife or animal care environment.
- Certificate III in Exhibited Animal Care (or equivalent) – essential.
- Previous experience leading teams or providing guidance within an animal care setting.
- Strong understanding of contemporary animal husbandry practices and animal welfare standards.
- Experience applying positive reinforcement training, conditioning and behavioural enrichment techniques.
- Confidence handling animals in guest‑facing environments, including presentations and interactive experiences.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage and educate diverse audiences.
- Previous public speaking or presentation experience.
- Strong organisational and time‑management skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Sound computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Knowledge of wildlife conservation issues and the zoological industry.
- Koala handling experience is advantageous.
- Manual driver’s licence.
- Experience using OERCA Animal Care Software (or equivalent animal management software).
- Blue Card is essential.
