We're recruiting an outstanding leadership chance for an experienced payroll professional to lead a small, highly capable national payroll team within a well-respected professional services organisation.

This is a hands‑on leadership role where you'll oversee the end‑to‑end payroll function, ensure legislative compliance, provide exceptional service to employees and stakeholders, and continue to drive operational excellence across the payroll team.

The organisation currently operates on Preceda and is transitioning to Dayforce, making this an exciting time to join a business committed to modernising its systems and processes.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the National Finance Controller, you'll be responsible for the successful delivery of payroll services across the organisation, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time while maintaining compliance with all relevant legislation.

Leading a small but high‑performing payroll team, you'll foster a collaborative, customer‑focused culture while maintaining strong relationships with Finance, HR and senior stakeholders nationally.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing day‑to‑day operational leadership with process improvement and delivering an exceptional internal service.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead, coach and develop a high‑performing national payroll team.
- Manage the accurate and timely processing of weekly, fortnightly and monthly payrolls.
- Ensure compliance with Australian payroll legislation, including PAYG, payroll tax, superannuation, workers' compensation and employee entitlements.
- Oversee payroll reconciliations, payroll journals, leave liability reporting and month‑end activities.




- Prepare statutory returns and ensure timely lodgement with relevant authorities.
- Manage payroll‑related audits and compliance requirements.
- Respond to complex payroll queries and provide expert advice to employees and internal stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain payroll policies, procedures and documentation.
- Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls and service delivery.
- Build trusted relationships with stakeholders across Finance, HR and the wider business.

About You

You'll be an experienced Payroll Manager who combines technical payroll expertise with strong leadership capability.

You’ll bring:

- Proven experience leading an end‑to‑end payroll function within a professional services organisation – such as an accounting, consulting or legal firm
- Demonstrated experience managing and developing payroll teams.
- Solid working knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, taxation, superannuation and employment obligations.
- Experience with enterprise payroll systems, with exposure to Preceda or Dayforce viewed favourably.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capability.
- Exceptional attention to detail, problem‑solving ability and commitment to continuous improvement.
- The ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining exceptional levels of accuracy and customer service.
