Overview
Provide strategic leadership to deliver hydrogeological assessment projects and programs regarding water resource management and major projects.
The Department of Lands, Planning and Environment’s Water Resources Division is responsible for the administration of the Northern Territory Water Act 1992 (the Act) which provides for the investigation, allocation, use, control, protection and management of the Territory’s water resource. We are a motivated, experienced and diverse team of water scientists, planners, technicians, regulators and policy makers who inform the sustainable management of the Territory’s water.
Role
As the Manager Groundwater Assessment, your primary objective will be to provide leadership to the Water Resources Division’s hydrogeological assessment projects and programme to meet the Northern Territory Government’s priorities regarding water resources management and major projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the department’s delivery of water assessment projects and associated research investigations and technology options that improve understanding of groundwater resource capabilities.
- Provide technical hydrogeological advice for water extraction licences, Environmental Impact Statements and Public Environmental Reports.
- Manage and mentor a team of scientific professionals that undertake hydrogeological investigations.
- Collaborate and provide technical advice to the Drilling unit to support alignment with industry standards, best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Provide project management, planning and delivery of contracts within the division, including financial, technical and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Hydrogeology, Science or a similar tertiary qualification with formal training in water resource management or hydrogeology.
- Proven professional experience at a senior level in hydrogeological assessments and in the design and hydrogeological supervision of bore drilling projects for groundwater monitoring programmes.
- Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple projects while ensuring high‑standard delivery.
- Extensive knowledge of groundwater, including data analysis, aquifer mapping, groundwater chemistry and geological interpretation.
