Position Overview

Jones Day is seeking a Senior Manager – Recognition & Awards . This is a full-time role based in the Sydney office and offers an exciting opportunity to work within the professional services industry at a leading global law firm, supported by both local and global management teams.

Working closely with lawyers and business development professionals across the Firm, the Senior Manager – Recognition & Awards will have overall responsibility for leading a dedicated team and driving the strategic approach, coordination, and development of submissions to key legal directories (such as Chambers and Legal 500), as well as selected rankings, lists, and awards published by news organisations and other relevant entities.

The role requires a strong commitment to delivering exceptional service, producing high-quality work, and fostering a collaborative environment focused on continuous improvement. Above all, the successful candidate will support the Department in a manner consistent with the Firm’s vision and values.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and continually enhance submissions that effectively communicate the Firm’s capabilities, with the goal of improving rankings, visibility, and recognition for the Firm and its lawyers




- Ensure editorial integrity and quality across all lawyer directory submissions, in line with best practices, to optimise outcomes
- Analyse results, performance, and year-on-year trends, and communicate insights to relevant internal and external stakeholders
- Collaborate with Firm leadership, partners, and staff to develop and draft compelling submissions
- Lead the end-to-end process for client references (“referees”), including calendaring, tracking, and managing deadlines
- Identify and prioritise high-value submissions by:
- Focusing on opportunities of greatest impact; and
- Recommending which submissions to pursue
- Manage a dedicated, cross-border team by:
- Monitoring performance and outputs
- Establishing and enforcing systems, processes, and quality standards
- Build and maintain relationships with legal directory editors and research teams to gather insights and identify opportunities for improvement
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes and effectively repurpose high-quality content across multiple submissions

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Strong understanding of legal practice areas and matters within a global law firm environment




- Demonstrated knowledge of legal directory research and editorial processes, with experience preparing submissions for rankings, lists, and awards
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with outstanding editorial ability to distil complex matters into clear, persuasive content
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective relationships with partners, staff, and external stakeholders
- Sound judgment and commercial awareness
- Proven experience managing and developing global teams, including coaching, mentoring, and performance development
- Strong leadership capability, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing deadlines

Education and Experience

- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, English, Journalism, Marketing, or Public Relations (advanced degree such as MBA, MA, MS, or JD is advantageous)
- Minimum of five years’ experience developing submissions for legal directories, rankings, or awards, or experience reviewing and ranking submissions in a research or editorial capacity (experience within a legal directory is highly regarded)
- Experience within a legal or skilled services environment in a business development, marketing, or communications role
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with LexTrack or similar database systems is preferred
- Fluency in English (written and spoken); additional language skills are advantageous
