Geosyntec is the tailings and geotechnical consultant of choice for several major mining companies with operations in Australia. As an example of our commitment to leading the industry in innovation and technical excellence, we have recently announced the establishment of an advanced testing facility led by Dr. David Reid. Our expertise, combined with Geosyntec’s world-class reputation in hydrogeology, geochemistry, geotechnical engineering, seismicity and risk allows us to assist our client in meeting their engineering challenges and better understanding their risk.

We have an opportunity available for a Principal Tailings Engineer to join our Perth, Brisbane or Melbourne office. This position is well-suited for a talented, experienced individual who is interested in contributing to and managing cutting-edge and challenging projects including several projects where we are currently the designated Engineer of Record.

Responsibilities

- Support our client’s tailings and mine waste management and operational teams to ensure their facilities are safe.
- Ensure compliance to the latest standards (which are evolving) to demonstrate ESG commitment and for the Social License to Operate.




- Provide technical and operational support for Tailings Storage Facilities (TSFs) and Water Storage Facilities (WSF).
- As a Principal Tailings Engineer, apply the tasks listed below and expand knowledge of all elements and disciplines required to design these facilities, such as hydrogeology, process, geochemistry, water, civil engineering and social engagement.
- Fulfill the role of an Engineer of Record (EoR).

Education and Licensure

- Bachelor's degree in civil or geotechnical engineering or a related field. (required)
- Advanced degree in civil or geotechnical engineering or a related field. (preferred)
- Professional registration (preferred but not essential)
- Engineer of Record (EoR) (required)

Skills, Experience And Qualifications

- At least 8 years (10+ preferred) of directly relevant experience in a consulting environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
- Knowledge of relevant geotechnical engineering software (required)
- Knowledge of numerical modeling tools. (preferred)
- Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required)
- Excellent writing and communication skills. (required)
- Field work and overnight travel may be required.
- Valid Australian driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
