A stormwater model someone else scoped. A drainage design that lands on your desk half-built, gets signed off by someone senior, and leaves your name on none of it. You push the same file around and wonder when you actually get to run something.
Here, you run the job.
This is a broad civil design role inside a well-established consultancy - residential subdivision, sitting between the design team and the directors.
You pick up a project and take it front to back. The work itself is worth mentioning: brownfield infill, the complex one-into-twenty sites with real constraints, the kind that require actual thinking.
Not greenfield master planning on a template someone else built five years ago.
It's also a remarkably settled place to work. The average tenure across the firm is 13 years. Nobody has done unpaid overtime in years - and on the rare occasion it does happen, it gets paid.
The group carries $25m and runs its own development pipeline, so while you've watched other consultancies go quiet or fold, this one hasn't.
You'd report directly to a lead engineer who still teaches.
If RPEQ is on your radar, it's supported. One more thing worth saying: the engineering team here runs 50/50 male and female - which in this industry you genuinely don't see often.
What's in it for you
A fully maintained dual-cab ute - fuel, tolls, the lot. At roughly $100 a week in M1 tolls alone, that's real money, not a rounding error. Take it as the vehicle or fold it into salary, around $25k of value either way.
Free on-site parking in Darra (and the same again if the office shifts to Indooroopilly). And genuine flexibility once you've shown you deliver - school-run hours, a day or two from home, part time arrangements.
These aren't lines in a job ad. They've actually been used here.
The directors also think commercially. When you win work, it gets noticed - and they'll have the conversation about what that's worth.
A couple of honest filters
They run 12d. Not occasionally, not "we're open to other tools" - 12d, that's it. If you're committed to something else, this isn't the right fit.
And this is a small firm. That means breadth, ownership, and no large machine behind you. If you're running away from somewhere rather than running toward this kind of setup, you'll know within a month.
If this sounds like what you've been after, send whatever you've got. Your CV doesn't need to be polished or current - whatever you have is fine.
