Place & Community Lead – Armidale, NSW for Global Sisters NFP

Part time: 4 days per week | Flexible remote work | Based locally in Armidale

Global Sisters is a national, award-winning nonprofit working to remove the barriers that prevent women from achieving economic security. With more than 10 years’ experience in women’s micro business and self-employment, we support women to build skills, confidence, networks and income pathways — while also working to shift the systems and structures that hold women back.

We are looking for a Place & Community Lead based in Armidale, regional NSW, to lead Global Sisters’ local place-based work.

This role is central to our Place & Community strategy, which recognises that women’s economic security is shaped by local relationships, systems, opportunities and support. You will work closely with the Head of Place & Community and our National Place team to bring this strategy to life in Armidale.

As one of our pilot sites, Armidale will also play an important role in helping shape the future growth of Place & Community across Australia.

About the role

The Place & Community Lead will work at two levels:

Developing a place-based Collective Impact Group — bringing together local stakeholders to create common goals, shared measurement and aligned streams of work that support women’s economic security in Armidale.

Delivering Global Sisters’ local stream of work — supporting women into self-employment and broader economic security outcomes through Global Sisters programs, pathways and grassroots systems change initiatives.

This is a hands-on, relationship-driven role suited to someone who can move comfortably between strategy and delivery. You will build trusted local partnerships, support women directly, and help position Global Sisters as a credible and locally rooted partner in community economic development.

Key responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of Place & Community, you will:





Build and maintain trusted relationships across Armidale’s local ecosystem, including council, community organisations, business, philanthropy and other local partners.

Convene and grow the Armidale Collective Impact Group, bringing diverse stakeholders together around shared goals for women’s economic security.

Facilitate the group toward common measurement, aligned action and genuine local ownership.

Support women in Armidale into self-employment and economic security through Global Sisters programs and pathways.

Identify and develop innovative local projects and broker partnerships that support women’s economic participation.

Connect women to the right resources, networks and support, ensuring their voices help shape local strategy.

Champion the SEER Impact Dashboard locally, contributing and using data and evidence that tells Armidale’s story and supports wider systems change.

Share learnings, challenges and insights with the National Place Learning Circle.

Represent Global Sisters as a trusted partner in community economic development and women’s economic security.

About you

This role would suit someone with experience in local economic development, community development, collective impact, place-based work, government, business or philanthropy.

You may bring some or all of the following:

Hands-on experience in place-based, collective impact or community development work, ideally at a delivery level.

Strong relationship-building skills and confidence working with diverse stakeholders, including First Nations communities and organisations.





Ability to bring people together across sectors and backgrounds to work toward a shared agenda.

A solutions-focused, resilient and dynamic approach.

Confidence working autonomously while staying closely connected to a national team.

Clear, grounded and confident communication skills, both written and verbal.

Comfort presenting to formal stakeholders as well as sitting alongside a woman starting her first business.

Experience running a microbusiness, supporting others into self-employment, or working in small business development.

Lived experience, deep connection to, or strong commitment to women’s economic security.
