About the role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Cook to join our kitchen team on a full time basis.
The successful applicant will prepare and cook a range of Nepalese and Indian dishes in accordance with the restaurant’s recipes, quality standards and service requirements. The role requires practical commercial-kitchen experience and the ability to work efficiently during busy service periods.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare, season, cook and present a range of Nepalese and Indian dishes in accordance with the restaurant’s menu and recipes.
- Prepare ingredients and maintain adequate mise en place for scheduled service periods.
- Use commercial kitchen equipment safely and effectively, including stovetops, grills, fryers, ovens and tandoor equipment where required.
- Ensure consistency in food quality, flavour, portioning and presentation.
- Monitor cooking times and temperatures to ensure food is prepared and held safely.
- Check the quality and freshness of ingredients before preparation and service.
- Maintain correct food storage, labelling and stock-rotation procedures, including FIFO practices.
- Maintain a clean, hygienic and organised kitchen work area.
- Assist with stock control, inventory checks and ingredient ordering.
- Monitor and minimise food wastage.
- Work cooperatively with chefs, cooks and other kitchen staff during preparation and service.
- Assist with menu improvements and daily specials where required.
- Comply with food-safety, workplace-health-and-safety and hygiene requirements.
Mandatory requirements
- At least one year of relevant employment experience as a Cook in a Nepalese, Indian or comparable commercial kitchen.
- Practical knowledge of Nepalese and/or Indian cooking techniques, ingredients and spices.
- Demonstrated understanding of commercial kitchen operations and service workflow.
- Ability to work under pressure while maintaining food quality and consistency.
- Strong knowledge of food safety and kitchen hygiene requirements.
- Good communication, teamwork and time-management skills.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends and public holidays where required.
Desirable
- Relevant commercial cookery qualification.
- Food Safety Certificate or willingness to obtain one.
- Previous experience in a Nepalese or Indian restaurant.
