Primary objective
Provide a specialist Rehabilitation Medicine service across Alice Springs Hospital and Central Australian Health Service (CAHS), including
inpatient and ambulatory care, while providing clinical leadership within the Central Australian Rehabilitation Service (CARS)

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide specialist Rehabilitation Medicine services across inpatient, outpatient and consultative settings, including the assessment

and management of patients requiring rehabilitation care.
2. Provide clinical leadership for Rehabilitation Medicine services within CAHS, supporting service planning, development and

continuous improvement.
3. Provide specialist advice and consultation to medical practitioners and multidisciplinary teams across Central Australia, including

support to regional and remote healthcare services.
4. Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver coordinated, patient-centred rehabilitation care and facilitate optimal

patient outcomes.
5. Provide supervision, support and teaching to junior medical officers, medical students and other health professionals, fostering a

positive learning environment and supporting secure, effective patient care.
6. Participate in an after-hours consultation roster and provide specialist support to colleagues and junior medical staff as required.
7. Participate in professional development, teaching, research and quality improvement activities, including peer review and clinical

audit.
8. Participate in quality assurance and clinical governance activities, including the review and development of policies, procedures and

guidelines in accordance with contemporary best practice.
9. Contribute to culturally safe healthcare delivery and support initiatives that improve health outcomes for Aboriginal people and those

living in remote communities.
10. Contribute to the ongoing evaluation and enhancement of the Central Australian Rehabilitation Service to support service objectives

and patient outcomes.
11. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in

order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces
12. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.

Selection criteria
Essential
1.



Eligible for specialist registration in Rehabilitation Medicine with the Medical Board of Australia and the Australian Health Practitioner

Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
2. Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in Rehabilitation Medicine, or equivalent specialist qualification

recognised by the Medical Board of Australia.
3. Demonstrated specialist expertise in Rehabilitation Medicine across inpatient, outpatient and consultative settings, including the

management of complex rehabilitation patients within multidisciplinary models of care.
4. Demonstrated ability to provide clinical leadership, supervision and teaching to junior medical staff and work effectively within

multidisciplinary teams.
5. Highly developed interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary and

cross-cultural environment.
6. Demonstrated understanding of the health needs of Aboriginal people and people living in remote communities, with a commitment

to delivering culturally safe healthcare.
7. Demonstrated participation in clinical governance, quality improvement, teaching and continuing professional development activities,

together with a commitment to maintaining high professional standards.
