About this role

Cultural Interpreters, First Peoples (Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Identified Position)

- Two positions available
- Based at Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre, Melbourne Museum
- Deliver engaging educational experiences in the cultural centre and across our three Museum sites

The Cultural Interpreter, First Peoples position plays a crucial role in enhancing audience understanding of First Peoples' knowledge, cultures, histories, and technology.

As part of the First Peoples Experiences department , you will be responsible for delivering engaging programs and activities to diverse audiences.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

We are seeking two cultural interpreters to facilitate learning programs, tours, workshops, and presentations for education groups, community organisations and the general public, using professional judgement to deliver learning outcomes for diverse audiences.

This position will also have the opportunity to use contemporary digital tools to support and deliver engaging educational experiences and will support and supervise new staff and volunteers with program and procedure familiarisation, including peer-to-peer learning,



communication guidance and procedural training.

ABOUT YOU:

To succeed in this role, we are looking for two people with the following skills:

- Demonstrated ability to interpret and present First Peoples' knowledge, cultures, histories, and technology to diverse audiences.
- Proven experience in facilitating First Peoples programs, workshops, or presentations for diverse audiences, with the ability to adapt to audience needs.
- Robust communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in teams.
- Self-motivated and capable of taking responsibility for your own performance and managing your work and time effectively.
- Must observe cultural protocols and engage with communities & Elders respectfully.

This position is only open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants in accordance with relevant Commonwealth, State and Territory legislation.

OTHER INFORMATION

There are two full time, ongoing positions available. The salary on offer is a VPS 2.2 Base salary of $72,189 per annum (pro rata) plus 12% superannuation.

The successful applicant is required to undergo a National Police Records Check and Working with Children Check and be assessed as suitable (new employees are required to meet this cost).
