About this chance

The role of the volunteer may include the following:

o Assisting in preparing, setting up and clearing away of materials and equipment
o Basic supervision of children in play areas
o Interaction with parents and children during activities
o Represent the Cairns Early Years centre in a positive way
o Be respectful of information received from parents and children
o Be a positive role model to the children & families: simply reflecting responsible behaviour, looking at children, following rules, acting responsibly etc.
o Working effectively as a team member providing communication and feedback to staff of children’s activities and interactions
o Report any incidents or accidents to staff
o Help ensure the safety of the centres environment and equipment bring any concerns to the staffs attention
o Assist with behavioural management techniques where required and if appropriate
o To provide information relating to parenting issues and / or services which assist families with these issues
o To be a listening ear,



someone to talk to
o To reduce social isolation

- - Each Volunteer/student will have their individual hours allocated with direction from the program coordinator. - Your ongoing commitment to the Early Years Centre is requested, however we understand you may have other commitments and may decide to cease your volunteer work at The Benevolent Society. In this circumstance, one week’s notice of ceasing your role is appreciated.
