About the Role

As a Customs Classifier at FedEx, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accurate tariff classification of imported and exported goods while maintaining compliance with Australian customs legislation and international trade requirements. Your expertise will directly contribute to the efficient clearance of shipments, minimise compliance risks, and deliver outstanding service to our customers.

Working within a collaborative team of customs professionals, you will use your analytical skills and attention to detail to classify a broad range of commodities and provide technical advice to internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

- Accurately classify goods using the Harmonized System (HS) and Australian Customs Tariff.
- Review commercial invoices, packing lists, technical specifications and supporting documentation to determine the correct tariff classification.
- Liaise with customers, freight forwarders, importers and internal teams to obtain product information and resolve classification enquiries.
- Provide guidance on tariff classifications, Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), customs concessions and regulatory requirements where applicable.
- Ensure compliance with Australian Border Force (ABF) requirements and other relevant government agencies.
- Identify and resolve classification discrepancies while proactively communicating with relevant stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate records and support documentation for audit and compliance purposes.
- Monitor changes to customs legislation, tariff schedules and trade agreements, ensuring classifications remain accurate and compliant.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance classification accuracy, efficiency and customer experience.

Skills & Experience

We're looking for someone who is:

- Highly analytical with exceptional attention to detail.
- Able to interpret technical information and apply legislation accurately.
- An excellent communicator with strong customer service and stakeholder management skills.
- Well organised, able to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.




- Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable learning new systems.
- A team-oriented team player with strong problem-solving abilities.
- Previous experience in customs classification, customs brokerage or international trade is highly regarded.

Minimum Qualifications

- Secondary school education or equivalent.
- A qualification in Customs Broking, International Trade, Logistics or a related discipline is highly desirable.
- Experience with Australian customs legislation and tariff classification is advantageous.
