About the Role

The Youth Mentor is an independent position, co-located within the Department of Justice Youth Justice Service. Working in partnership with Youth Justice Officers, you will provide mentoring, advocacy and practical support to young people involved in the youth justice system, helping them achieve positive outcomes and successfully engage with their Youth Justice case plans.

You will work collaboratively with Youth Justice, families, schools, health professionals and community organisations to build solid support networks that help young people reach their goals and reduce the likelihood of reoffending.

Key Responsibilities

- Build positive, trusting relationships with young people through mentoring and ongoing support.
- Work with young people to identify goals and develop strategies that support their Youth Justice case plans.
- Provide information, referrals and practical support to connect young people with appropriate services.
- Advocate for young people and work closely with Youth Justice Officers and the HOPE Youth Justice Bail Coordinator.
- Liaise with families, schools, health professionals and community services to coordinate supports.
- Promote emotional wellbeing, positive life skills, and stronger family and community connections.
- Build effective partnerships with local agencies and represent HOPE at stakeholder meetings and community networks.
- Complete incident reporting, collect quality data and participate in continuous improvement activities.

About You

- Passionate about supporting vulnerable young people to achieve positive outcomes.
- Committed to building respectful, trusting relationships with young people, families and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience working with at-risk young people.
- Strong communication, relationship-building and problem-solving skills.
- A broad understanding of the challenges and experiences of people living in regional Western Australia.
- Experience working in regional and/or remote communities (desirable).
- Commitment to HOPE Community Services' values and to delivering culturally safe, inclusive and equitable services.

Pre-Employment Requirements

- Current C or A Class Driver's Licence.
- Current Working with Children Check.
- Current National Police Clearance (issued within the last three months).
- Department of Justice Clearance.
- Current First Aid Certificate.
