Velspices Café is looking for a reliable, hardworking, and enthusiastic Kitchen Hand / Cook to join our friendly team. We are an Indian and Sri Lankan café serving authentic food, snacks, and beverages. This is a hands-on role where you'll assist with food preparation, cooking, customer service, and maintaining a clean and organised café environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Prepare and cook café menu items following recipes and food safety standards.
- Assist with food preparation, including cutting vegetables, preparing ingredients, and portioning food.
- Restock ingredients, packaging, drinks, and café supplies throughout the day.
- Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen, café, equipment, and workstations.
- Wash dishes, utensils, and cooking equipment.
- Serve customers at the counter with a friendly and qualified attitude.
- Take customer orders and operate the POS (cash register/EFTPOS).
- Handle cash transactions and complete end-of-day cash reconciliation when required.
- Monitor stock levels and report items that require replenishment.
- Assist with receiving and organising deliveries.
- Follow food hygiene, workplace health and safety, and cleaning procedures.
- Work collaboratively with the café team to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.




- Perform other general café duties as required.

What We're Looking For

- Previous experience in a café, restaurant, takeaway, or commercial kitchen is preferred but not essential.
- Experience with Indian or Sri Lankan cuisine is highly regarded.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong work ethic with attention to cleanliness and organisation.
- Friendly customer service and communication skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team.
- Availability to work weekdays and/or weekends.
