Provide technical support to assist the Farm Manager in poultry and egg production, servicing and marketing.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure optimum livestock health through effective prevention and treatment of diseases.
- Monitor livestock health and assess the effectiveness of feed formulas to meet all nutrient requirements, considering factors like age, reproductive state, housing conditions, ambient temperature and production goals.
- Collect, collate and update detailed records for efficient enterprise management, including layer performance, egg care, chicken care, vaccinations, feed formulas and breeding activities.
- Maintain and clean animal enclosures and facilities to ensure a safe and hygienic environment.
- Administer medications and treatments under the guidance of a veterinarian or supervisor.
- Assist in breeding programs by monitoring reproductive cycles and caring for new born animals.
- Perform autopsies, identify pathogenic microorganisms, parasites and harmful insects or weeds and devising effective methods of control.
- Maintain a Quality Assurance program, including planning and managing slaughtering, harvesting and other production processes.
- Observe and report signs of illness or abnormal behaviour to supervisory staff promptly.
- Ensure compliance with animal welfare regulations and standards.
- Operate and maintain equipment used in animal care and facility maintenance.
- Participate in training and development programs to stay updated on best practices in animal husbandry.
- Maintain safe working practices and a safe working environment.
Requirements:
Our ideal candidate is an experienced Animal Husbandry Technician with a minimum of one years full time work experience and a minimum Australian Diploma/ Advanced Diploma or equivalent. In the absence of qualification, 3 years full time relevant work experience is required.
