Our client, Gill Family Kitchen, is an Australian family-owned hospitality business specialising in authentic Indian cuisine. Situated in Blackburn, Victoria, the restaurant is dedicated to delivering fresh, high-quality Indian meals prepared using premium ingredients, traditional cooking techniques, and aromatic spices in a welcoming and customer-focused environment. Gill Family Kitchen is currently seeking a skilled and experienced Chef to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and presenting high-quality dishes, contributing to menu development, supervising kitchen operations, maintaining food safety standards, and supporting the continued delivery of exceptional dining experiences while upholding the business's commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.
The annual salary for this full-time position is $80,000 to $85,000 plus superannuation.
Duties include:
- Plan and develop seasonal menus that reflect customer preferences while maintaining the business's quality standards and profitability.
- Prepare, cook, and present a wide range of meals in accordance with established recipes and presentation guidelines.
- Monitor the quality of ingredients and finished dishes to ensure consistency, freshness, and customer satisfaction.
- Estimate food and labour costs and assist with portion control to minimise waste and maximise operational efficiency.
- Order, receive, and monitor stock levels of food supplies, ensuring adequate inventory and proper stock rotation.
- Supervise kitchen operations during service, coordinating food preparation to ensure timely delivery of meals.
- Train, mentor, and supervise kitchen staff in food preparation techniques, hygiene practices, and safe work procedures.
- Ensure compliance with food safety legislation, workplace health and safety requirements, and sanitation standards.
- Inspect kitchen equipment and work areas to ensure cleanliness, maintenance, and operational readiness.
- Collaborate with the Management to introduce current menu items, specials, and improvements based on customer feedback and seasonal availability.
- Monitor food preparation processes and adjust cooking methods where required to maintain consistent quality and presentation.
- Maintain accurate kitchen records relating to stock usage, food safety, cleaning schedules, and supplier deliveries while supporting efficient day-to-day kitchen operations.
Qualifications:
- Must have a Diploma of Hospitality Management, a Certificate IV or an equivalent qualification.
- Should have at least more than one (1) year of experience within a commercial kitchen.
- Strong knowledge of Indian cuisine, cooking methods, and traditional recipes.
- Understanding of food safety, hygiene regulations, and kitchen compliance requirements.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
Pay: $80,000.00 – $85,000.00 per year
