Primary objective
To process and coordinate the department's response to requests for information, including Freedom of Information (FOI) applications, in
collaboration with Department of Corporate and Digital Development and to manage administrative release requests and privacy-related
matters, in consultation with departmental program areas. Support the department to meet its responsibilities in promoting best practice
information management, information privacy and data protection, and provide specialist advice and training in accordance with the
Information Act 2002 and associated legislation.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Coordinate and support the processing of Freedom of Information (FOI)



applications and manage other information access requests,

including administrative releases, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and policy and departmental requirements.
2. Provide specialist advice on information disclosure, privacy obligations, and the management of personal and sensitive information.
3. Support the development and review of Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and provide recommendations to ensure compliance with

privacy requirements and best-practice standards.
4. Analyse departmental information and determine appropriate disclosure, exemption and redaction requirements in accordance with

legislation, policy, legal advice and departmental obligations.
5. Develop and deliver training, guidance materials, and awareness programs to build staff capability in FOI, information privacy,

information management, and related legislative obligations.
6. Manage or support the assessment, investigation and reporting of information privacy incidents and data breaches, including providing

advice on containment, risk mitigation, notification requirements and continuous improvement measures.
7. Build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate timely, compliant, and

customer-focused information access and, privacy outcomes.
8. Contribute to governance and continuous improvement through the development, implementation and review of policies, procedures,

reporting mechanisms,



and quality assurance activities relating to information access, privacy and information management.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in Freedom of Information (FOI), information access, privacy, information management, and

the application of relevant legislation, policies and best-practice frameworks, including the Information Act 2002 (NT).
2. Proven ability to interpret and apply legislation, policies and procedures to provide high-quality advice, manage complex information

access and privacy matters, and exercise sound judgement in sensitive and confidential environments.
3. High-level communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, develop resources and training materials, deliver advice, and

communicate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
4. Demonstrated stakeholder engagement, consultation and negotiation skills, with the ability to build productive relationships and

achieve positive outcomes across government, organisational and community settings.
5. Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and deliver

accurate, high-quality outcomes in a complex setting.
6. Demonstrated resilience, adaptability and professionalism, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively, maintain

confidentiality, and contribute to governance, compliance and continuous improvement initiatives.

Desirable
1. Tertiary qualification in legal studies, information or records management or a related discipline or equivalent experience
