About the role
This graduate role supports the delivery of occupational health, hygiene, and safety consulting services for government and commercial clients. Working with experienced consultants, the successful candidate will assist with workplace assessments, exposure monitoring, data analysis, and technical reporting.
Hibbs & Associates will provide practical training, mentoring, and professional development support.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist experienced consultants with occupational hygiene assessments, including workplace inspections, interviews, exposure monitoring, and site observations.
- Support monitoring for airborne contaminants, physical agents, indoor air quality, heat stress, lighting, and other workplace hazards.
- Prepare, calibrate, operate, and maintain sampling and monitoring equipment under supervision.
- Record field observations, manage sampling data, and assist with data analysis and interpretation.
- Contribute to technical reports, risk assessments, and recommendations for controlling workplace hazards.
- Assist with the development and implementation of occupational health, hygiene, and safety programmes.
- Maintain knowledge of relevant legislation, Codes of Practice, guidance material, and industry developments.
- Support client communication, project administration, and other consulting tasks as directed.
Supplementary Consulting Duties
- Assessment and remediation of clandestine drug laboratories.
- Assessment and remediation of mould contaminated buildings.
- Development and presentation of OHS training programmes.
- Occupational health and safety assessments, including height safety, machine guarding, slips, trips and falls, and lighting.
- Preparation of site health and safety plans and occupational hygiene programmes for contaminated site remediation projects.
- Maintenance, calibration, and operation of sampling and monitoring equipment.
- Other projects as required
Administration and Quality Management Functions
The administration and quality management functions include:
- Assist with project delivery in line with Hibbs & Associates’ mission, quality policy, and service standards.
- Complete daily work records using the Company practice management system.
- Assist with laboratory maintenance and quality assurance programmes.
- Participate in internal quality reviews with the Principal Occupational Hygienist.
- Confirm projects meet internal quality standards.
- Identify non-conformances and support corrective or preventing actions.
- Help ensure projects are completed within agreed client timeframes.
Professional Qualifications and Experience
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in occupational hygiene, science, engineering, environmental health, or a related discipline with at least one year’s experience.
- Practical, placement, laboratory, fieldwork, or early-career experience in occupational hygiene or a related field.
- Eligibility or willingness to work towards AIOH membership.
Key Skills and Abilities
- Ability to accurately observe, describe, and record workplace processes, details, and hazards.
- Ability to analyse and evaluate technical data, test results, reports, and plans.
- Developing skills in the operation, calibration, and maintenance of monitoring and testing equipment.
- Practical and creative approach to problem solving.
- Ability to research scientific and engineering issues and compile information from a range of sources.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to support concise and accurate technical reporting.
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office and willingness to learn relevant statistics and occupational hygiene software.
- Well-developed organisational and time management skills.
Pay: $65,000.00 – $80,000.00 per year
