Cabinetmaker / Joiner – Job Description

A Cabinetmaker / Joiner is responsible for manufacturing, assembling, installing, and finishing custom cabinets, kitchens, vanities, wardrobes, entertainment units, and other timber and cabinetry products.

Key Responsibilities

* Read and interpret architectural drawings, plans, and detailed measurements.

* Measure and mark materials accurately for cutting and assembly.

* Select and prepare timber, MDF, plywood, laminate, and other cabinetry materials.

* Operate woodworking machinery and power tools, including panel saws, table saws, routers, edge banders, drills, and sanders.

* Cut, shape, edge, and assemble cabinetry components to accurate specifications.

* Manufacture and install kitchen cabinets, doors, drawers, wardrobes, vanities, TV units, and custom joinery.

* Install hinges, drawer runners, handles, hardware, and other fittings.

* Ensure all cabinets and joinery are level, square, aligned, and properly secured.

* Carry out on-site installation and make adjustments where required.

* Inspect finished work to ensure quality, accuracy, and a high standard of workmanship.

* Identify and resolve measurement, fitting, and installation issues.

* Coordinate with builders, designers, clients, and other trades when required.

* Maintain a clean, organised,



and safe workshop and worksite.

* Follow workplace health and safety procedures when operating machinery and working on construction sites.

* Complete work within agreed deadlines while maintaining quality standards.

Skills and Experience

* Experience in cabinetmaking, joinery, or shopfitting.

* Ability to read and understand plans and technical drawings.

* Strong knowledge of cabinetry materials, hardware, and installation methods.

* Valuable measuring, cutting, and problem-solving skills.

* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

* High attention to detail and quality workmanship.

* Ability to safely operate woodworking machinery and hand tools.

* Good communication and time-management skills.

* Physical ability to handle materials and perform installation work.

* Relevant trade qualification or equivalent practical experience is desirable.

Typical Work Environment

The role may involve working in a cabinetmaking workshop, factory, residential homes, commercial sites, and construction sites. The position may require lifting materials, standing for extended periods, using machinery, and travelling to different installation locations.

Pay: $29.19 – $50.10 per hour
