Electrical Engineers - HV Protection Relay Testing Engineers – Multiple positions

About the business

Universal Energy Australia Pty Ltd is a Perth Based company with several ongoing and upcoming projects throughout Australia and Southeast Asia.

We provide High Voltage (HV) testing, commissioning and maintenance service to a wide range of customers across many industries including major utilities, heavy industry and oil & gas both onshore and offshore.

We are currently seeking expressions of interest/applications from experienced HV Protection Relay Testing Engineers for ongoing projects and a number of recent projects that are expected to start in the coming weeks.

We are seeking suitable candidates for full-time positions.

Job tasks and responsibilities

You will need to be very versatile with the expectation that you may be asked at short notice to mobilise or de-mobilise from one job to another anywhere across the region.

You may also be asked to work in remote locations on fixed FIFO rotations

Position Description:

- Protection relay testing and commissioning
- Protection relay programming and setting changes
- Excellent understanding of electrical theory, specialising in protection systems, including Line protection, Transformer Protection, Generator Protection, Busbar Protection, Motor Protection and Feeder Protection
- Interpretation of complex schematic diagrams for High Voltage Protection systems
- Secondary injection of various relay types including, ABB, Siemens Siprotec, GE Multilin, Areva P series, SEL series




- Primary injection testing of Current transformers, Voltage Transformers, Bus Zone differential, Transformer differential and Restricted earth fault system’s
- Complex logic design, implementation and testing
- Highly proficient in the use of Omicron test equipment and software, including CMC356 and CPC100
- Understanding of Substation Automation system IEC 61850

Skills and experience

To be considered for this role you will need:

- Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Current Electrical Licence (desired, not essential)
- Current Drivers Licence
- Nationally recognised High Voltage Switching Ticket (desired, not essential)
- Extensive experience of testing a wide range of Protection Relays (essential)
- Extensive experience with Omicron test equipment (essential)
- Extensive experience of primary injection testing
- HV and LV switchboard commissioning and testing experience
- Circuit Breaker, CT, VT, busbar testing experience
- Full understanding of schematic drawings and electrical protection schemes
- Be self-motivated with the ability to work alone or as part of a large team
- GIS Switchgear experience and OEM training (will be highly regarded but not essential)
- Transformer testing and commissioning experience
- The ability to think on your feet and adapt to a wide range of technical issues that may develop during scheduled shutdown periods
