About River City Neurology
River City Neurology is a newly established specialist neurology practice committed to providing high-quality, patient-centred neurological care to patients and families across Brisbane and greater Queensland. Our consultant neurologists provide outpatient neurology consultations, neurophysiology services including nerve conduction studies and EMG, EEG services and specialised neurological care in a professional and collaborative environment.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced, organised and compassionate Medical Receptionist to join our growing team on a permanent part-time basis. You will be an important first point of contact for patients, referrers and clinicians and will help ensure that appointments, referrals, billing, correspondence and day-to-day reception workflows are managed accurately and efficiently.
This role is suited to someone who is confident in a busy specialist environment, communicates professionally, protects patient confidentiality and takes pride in providing a seamless experience for patients and practitioners.
Key Responsibilities
· Welcome patients and visitors and provide professional, empathetic service in person and by telephone.
· Manage appointment bookings, cancellations, waiting lists and practitioner diaries.
· Confirm referral validity, demographic information, appointment requirements and relevant documentation.
· Process Medicare, DVA, private, WorkCover and third-party billing accurately, where applicable.
· Receive payments, issue receipts and assist with daily billing and payment reconciliation.
· Manage incoming telephone calls, emails, referrals,
reports and clinical correspondence.
· Scan, upload, allocate and maintain documents accurately within the practice management system.
· Coordinate with neurologists, neurophysiology and EEG staff, hospitals, general practitioners and other referrers.
· Support patient flow and communicate delays or appointment changes sensitively.
· Maintain confidentiality and comply with privacy, cybersecurity and practice policies.
· Contribute to opening, closing and general administrative procedures.
· Support the Practice Manager and other team members and assist with continuous improvement of practice workflows.
Essential Skills and Experience
· Previous experience in medical reception or medical administration.
· Strong patient-service and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate with people who may be unwell, distressed or anxious.
· High level of accuracy, organisation and attention to detail.
· Demonstrated experience managing multiple priorities in a busy environment.
· Working knowledge of Medicare billing, referrals and medical confidentiality.
· Confident computer skills and experience using practice management software and Microsoft Office.
· Qualified telephone manner and clear written communication.
· Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
· Unrestricted Australian working rights.
Highly Regarded
· Experience in specialist medical rooms, particularly neurology, neurosurgery, rehabilitation, pain medicine or another complex specialty.
· Experience with DVA, WorkCover and third-party billing.
· Experience with Xestro practice management software.
· Medical terminology knowledge and experience handling specialist referrals and reports.
· Experience with EEG, EMG or nerve conduction study bookings and preparation instructions.
What We Offer
· Permanent part-time employment, approximately 24–30 hours over 3–4 weekdays, with the final roster negotiated with the successful candidate.
· $35–$38 per hour plus superannuation, depending on experience.
