Senior Joinery Designer
FORMA Joinery is seeking a Senior Joinery Designer with strong residential design ability, real joinery knowledge and the confidence to lead clients through a professional design consultation.
This role is for someone who understands that great joinery design is not just about producing drawings. It is about reading a space, understanding the client, knowing how cabinetry is built, knowing what will actually work, and being able to guide the customer with enough knowledge that they feel confident moving forward.
The right person will not rely on personality alone. Clients should leave the consultation feeling that they have spoken to someone who genuinely understands joinery, design, materials, hardware, functionality, production and installation.
This is a role for a designer who can earn trust through knowledge.
We use Cabinet Vision for drafting and design documentation, so strong Cabinet Vision experience is preferred.
About FORMA Joinery
FORMA Joinery is an established and growing Brisbane-based joinery company delivering high-quality residential and commercial joinery projects.
Although the company is still young in age, FORMA has already developed into a structured operation with multiple staff, managers, departments and systems across sales, design, production, installation, admin and marketing.
That combination is part of what makes the opportunity different.
FORMA has the energy, ambition and growth of a younger company, but the structure, workload and seriousness of an established business. We are not starting from scratch. We are building on an existing foundation and strengthening the next stage of the company.
Our residential clients are not simply looking for cabinetry. They are looking for guidance, better use of space, strong design direction, improved functionality, premium finishes and confidence that the company they choose understands the full process from first consultation through to final installation.
As the company continues to grow, we are looking for a Senior Joinery Designer who can help lift the standard of residential consultations, strengthen the design department and contribute to the next stage of FORMA’s growth.
About The Role
The Senior Joinery Designer will work alongside our admin and office team to conduct residential design consultations, understand client requirements, create strong design outcomes and help move projects through the quotation and approval process.
You will be expected to take ownership of the design consultation stage and help clients feel confident in FORMA’s ability to deliver their project.
A solid designer in this role should be able to look at a space and quickly understand:
- What the client is trying to achieve
- How the space should function
- What layout makes sense
- What design direction suits the home
- What materials, finishes and hardware may be appropriate
- What details may affect price, production or installation
- What needs to be clarified before quotation
- How to guide the customer towards a clear decision
This role requires someone who can think through the full project, not just the first drawing.
The right person will combine design ability, joinery knowledge, customer confidence, practical thinking and commercial awareness.
Client Trust And Consultation Standard
A major part of this role is earning the client’s trust during the consultation.
That trust does not come from sweet-talking the customer. It comes from being able to explain things properly,
ask the right questions, identify the right opportunities and give advice that clearly comes from experience.
Clients should feel that the designer understands:
- How the space should work
- What design choices will suit the home
- What materials and finishes are suitable
- What hardware and storage options make sense
- What will affect price
- What will affect manufacturing
- What will affect installation
- What should be avoided
- What will give the customer the best long-term result
The right designer should leave an impression because they know what they are talking about.
FORMA is looking for someone who can guide clients with confidence, not pressure them. Someone who can sell the vision because the design has been properly thought through.
Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting residential design consultations with clients.
- Understanding the client’s needs, lifestyle, style direction, priorities and budget expectations.
- Creating design concepts that are attractive, functional, buildable and commercially sensible.
- Preparing design drawings, renders and documentation using Cabinet Vision.
- Guiding clients through materials, finishes, hardware, layouts and design options.
- Building customer confidence through strong product knowledge and design advice.
- Working with the sales and office team to ensure consultations are booked, prepared and followed up properly.
- Ensuring design information is accurate before quotation.
- Helping prepare proposals that clearly communicate the value and scope of the project.
- Supporting quotation conversion by presenting designs confidently and professionally.
- Identifying design, production or installation issues before they become problems.
- Understanding how cabinetry will be manufactured, assembled, transported and installed.
- Working with production and installation teams where required to ensure designs are practical and complete.
- Maintaining strong communication with clients throughout the design and quotation stage.
- Following company procedures, file naming, documentation and handover standards.
- Managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment without dropping accuracy or presentation standards.
- Supporting the improvement and growth of the design department.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone with genuine joinery design experience and strong technical understanding.
The successful candidate should be able to bring together design thinking, customer communication, Cabinet Vision drafting, product knowledge, production awareness and sales confidence.
This role would suit someone who:
- Has strong experience in residential joinery, cabinetry, kitchen design or a closely related field.
- Understands cabinetry and joinery beyond surface-level design.
- Is confident conducting design consultations with clients.
- Can gain customer trust through knowledge, not just personality.
- Can visualise a project from start to finish.
- Understands how design decisions affect manufacturing, installation, pricing and customer satisfaction.
- Has experience using Cabinet Vision or similar professional joinery drafting software.
- Is comfortable working quickly while maintaining accuracy.
- Can manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Has strong customer communication and sales ability.
- Can guide clients without being passive or uncertain.
- Has the confidence to make recommendations and explain design decisions clearly.
- Is organised, reliable and accountable.
- Has the time, energy and focus required for a demanding role in a growing company.
- Wants responsibility, challenge, progression and long-term opportunity.
Technical Knowledge Expected
The right person should have a strong working understanding of:
- Kitchen, laundry, wardrobe, vanity and general residential joinery design.
- Cabinet construction principles.
- Joinery measurements, clearances and practical design requirements.
- Materials, board products, finishes and benchtop considerations.
- Hardware, hinges, drawer systems, lift-up mechanisms, handles and internal storage solutions.
- Appliance integration and how appliance specifications affect cabinetry.
- Production requirements and how drawings translate into manufacturing.
- Installation considerations, including fillers, scribes, access, site conditions and tolerances.
- How to prepare a design so it can be quoted, built and installed properly.
This role requires a designer who understands the full chain of joinery, from first consultation to final installation.
This Role Is Not For Everyone
This is not a role for someone who is unsure of their ability, avoids client conversations, needs constant direction or only wants to sit behind a screen producing basic drawings.
FORMA is a structured and established company, but it is also growing quickly. That creates opportunity, but it also requires energy, flexibility, confidence and accountability.
The pace is fast, the standards are high, and the role requires someone who can think clearly, communicate well and move projects forward.
We are looking for someone who wants to be challenged and who is capable of becoming a key part of a growing design department.
The Opportunity
For the right person, this is an opportunity to step into a serious senior design role within a company that already has a strong foundation and is now building its next stage.
You will have the prospect to work directly with clients, influence project outcomes, help improve internal design systems and grow with the business as the company continues to expand.
This role is suited to someone who wants more than a comfortable design job.
It is suited to someone who wants to help build something with real momentum behind it.
Skills And Experience
Preferred experience includes:
- Residential joinery, cabinetry or kitchen design experience.
- Strong Cabinet Vision experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of joinery construction and installation considerations.
- Experience conducting client consultations.
- Strong sales and customer communication skills.
- Ability to prepare design drawings, renders and project documentation.
- Understanding of materials, finishes, hardware and functional design.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects at once.
- Ability to work quickly without sacrificing accuracy.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, growing business.
Employment Type
Full-time role.
Remuneration will be based on experience, capability and suitability for the role.
