Housing Officer – Canberra

St Vincent de Paul Society Housing Australia (SVdPSHA) is a Registered Tier 1 Community Housing Provider and a designated Special Work of the St Vincent de Paul Society. We provide appropriate, secure and affordable rental housing, while working to create socially inclusive neighbourhoods where people and communities can thrive.

About the Role

Reporting to the State Manager NSW/ACT, the Housing Officer will deliver effective property and tenancy management services while providing high-quality, responsive customer service to applicants and tenants. This role is ideal for someone who is organised, empathetic and confident working with people from diverse backgrounds in a busy community housing environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Manage a portfolio of approximately 150–170 tenancies, including new tenancy sign-ups, allocations, transfers, vacant and void properties, and responses to antisocial behaviour.

- Conduct six-monthly rent reviews, manage rental arrears and take appropriate remedial action to minimise financial losses.

- Carry out regular asset and property inspections, including six-monthly inspections as required.





- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in relevant databases and report potential issues, risks and hazards in line with established procedures.

About You

- Qualifications and/or training in housing, community services or a related field.

- Understanding of, and sensitivity to, the needs of social housing tenants, applicants and the broader community.

- Current knowledge of the legal framework relevant to social housing landlords and tenants.

- Experience in housing management or service delivery within a community or social services setting, including support areas such as mental health, domestic and family violence, and alcohol and other drug use.

- Ability to work with minimal supervision, exercise sound judgement and prioritise a demanding workload.

- Robust time management, organisational and administrative skills.

- Commitment to the values of SVdPSHA and the St Vincent de Paul Society.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with highly developed interpersonal skills.

- A current driver licence.
