The Role

The position manages the day-to-day delivery of nursing services within the Forensic Hospital.

The position is responsible and accountable for planning, development, implementation and evaluation of nursing services for persons admitted to the unit and will oversee the delivery of these services.

The Nursing Unit Manager must ensure that mental health services are safely, effectively and efficiently delivered in this environment. Continuous mental health/physical health and risk assessment must occur as part of the comprehensive assessment, care coordination and discharge planning process.

The position holder is required to develop and maintain strong working relationships with other health streams including: Women’s Health, Adolescent Health, Primary Health, Drug & Alcohol, Aboriginal Health and Population Health, as well as Local Health Districts.

Essential Criteria

- Current authority to practice as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia.
- Tertiary qualification in health management or working towards or a combination of study and work.

Our Location, Team, and Service

The Forensic Hospital is a high-secure forensic mental health facility in Current South Wales, operated by Justice Health NSW. This facility provides specialist,



therapeutic inpatient care for adults and adolescent forensic, correctional, and high-risk civil patients.

A multidisciplinary team of medical, nursing, and allied health professionals are dedicated to providing a care across the clinical spectrum, from high dependency and acute care, to long stay and rehabilitation care.

- A mandatory and comprehensive two-week, full-time orientation is provided for all current staff at Forensic Hospital. All days are paid. The next intake date will be 7-18 September 2026 and 12-23 October 2026.
