About LiveLife Alarms
LiveLife Alarms is Australia's leading provider of mobile personal alarms, empowering older Australians and their loved ones to live with independence and peace of mind. Our technology supports over 160,000 customers across Australia, New Zealand and Canada, providing safety, connection and reassurance when it matters most.
We're now bringing LiveLife Falls Prevention, a new division of the business, to the Australian allied health market. This isn't your typical SaaS role. Our platform is built on years of evidence-based research from Neuroscience Research Australia (NeuRA), giving physiotherapists, occupational therapists and clinical teams the tools to take a multifactorial approach to falls risk assessment, helping them make earlier, better-informed decisions to keep their clients safe and independent. We're not a start-up. LiveLife Falls Prevention is a new, growing arm of an established Australian company, so you get the energy of a launch backed by the stability of a proven business.
About the Opportunity
This is the first senior engineering appointment into a newly formed software team — a rare chance to shape how a modern platform gets built from the ground up, rather than inherit someone else's decisions.
Reporting to the Head of Software, you'll carry end-to-end delivery responsibility across a up-to-date web platform built on React, Python and Azure. The platform is still early in its life: architecture, standards and engineering practice are actively being established, and you'll have direct influence over how they're set. Current development is focused on an evidence-based falls prevention and case management platform, developed in partnership with a leading Australian research institute.
As the team grows,
this role is expected to step into technical leadership, guiding additional engineers both locally and offshore. If you're looking for your opportunity into a lead position, this role is for you.
The position is based in our North Sydney office. The Head of Software is based in Melbourne, so this position calls for a high degree of autonomy and clear, confident written communication.
What You’ll be Doing
- Deliver features end to end across the front end and back end, from requirements through to production.
- Design and maintain APIs consumed by internal and external systems, with appropriate attention to versioning, documentation and backwards compatibility.
- Translate business requirements into technical solutions, working directly with stakeholders outside engineering where formal specifications may not exist.
- Take ownership of the quality of delivered work, including testing, monitoring and error handling.
- Make effective use of AI development tooling while retaining full ownership of code quality, correctness and review.
- Help establish engineering standards and practices — code review, source control, CI and release process — to support the growth of the team.
- Provide technical guidance and code review to other engineers as the team grows, including developers engaged through an offshore partner.
- Participate in technical planning and estimation alongside the Head of Software.
About You
- Six or more years of commercial experience delivering and supporting production web applications.
- Demonstrated depth in either Python or modern React, with working proficiency in the other.
- Experience designing APIs intended for consumption by other teams or third parties.
- Practical experience with a major cloud platform — Azure preferred; AWS or Google Cloud is acceptable.
- Sound engineering fundamentals across testing, source control and continuous integration.
- A proven ability to operate effectively with limited supervision and minimal existing process.
Whilst not essential, it would be desirable if you had:
- Experience mentoring engineers or working within a distributed or offshore delivery model.
- Experience in health technology or another regulated industry.
- Familiarity with Australian privacy obligations, ISO 27001, or aged care and NDIS environments.
- Experience as an early engineering hire in a team that subsequently scaled.
