About PFWA

Plastic Fabricators Pty Ltd, trading as PFWA, is an established Western Australian industrial fabrication company servicing the mining, water treatment, resources and infrastructure sectors.

We specialise in custom industrial thermoplastic fabrication, including process tanks, pipework systems, electrowinning cells, filtration equipment, chemical handling equipment and other engineered products.

Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Draftsperson / Estimator to join our Perth-based team.

About the Role

This is a combined drafting and estimating position supporting projects from initial customer enquiry through to quotation, detailed design and release for fabrication.

You will work closely with customers, management, project personnel, suppliers and our workshop team to develop practical, cost-effective fabrication solutions.

The role is suited to someone who understands that good drafting is not only about producing drawings—it is also about designing equipment that can be fabricated efficiently, safely and commercially.

Key Responsibilities

- Prepare detailed 2D fabrication, assembly and general arrangement drawings.

- Develop 3D models for custom-fabricated industrial equipment.

- Review customer drawings, specifications, scopes of work and tender documents.

- Produce material take-offs and bills of materials.

- Estimate material, labour, subcontractor and purchased-component costs.

- Prepare quotations and tender submissions.

- Obtain supplier and subcontractor pricing.

- Assist with concept development and practical fabrication solutions.

- Prepare drawings and documentation for workshop production.

- Maintain drawing registers,



revisions and project documentation.

- Liaise with customers to clarify technical and commercial requirements.

- Work directly with workshop personnel to resolve fabrication queries.

- Update drawings to reflect approved changes and as-built conditions.

- Assist with continuous improvement of PFWA’s estimating and drafting systems.

About You

You will ideally have:

- Qualifications in mechanical drafting, engineering drafting, mechanical design or a related discipline.

- Previous drafting experience within mechanical, industrial or fabrication environments.

- Experience using SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD or similar CAD software.

- The ability to prepare clear and accurate fabrication drawings.

- Experience with estimating, quoting, material take-offs or cost preparation.

- An understanding of fabrication processes, workshop practices and manufacturing tolerances.

- Strong numerical, organisational and problem-solving skills.

- The ability to interpret technical specifications and incomplete customer information.

- Good written and verbal communication skills.

- The ability to manage several enquiries and projects simultaneously.

- A practical approach to design and a robust attention to detail.

- Australian working rights.

Highly Regarded Experience

Experience in any of the following areas will be considered advantageous:

- Industrial thermoplastic fabrication.

- HDPE, polypropylene, PVC, PVDF or other engineering plastics.





- Process tanks, pressure vessels or chemical storage equipment.

- Mining and mineral-processing equipment.

- Water and wastewater treatment equipment.

- Electrowinning cells and gold-room equipment.

- Industrial pipework and piping layouts.

- Sheet-metal, stainless-steel or general mechanical fabrication.

- Tender preparation and commercial estimating.

- Site measurement and preparation of as-built drawings.

- ERP, estimating or job-management software.

Direct thermoplastic fabrication experience is preferred but not essential. Candidates with strong mechanical drafting and fabrication estimating experience from steel, sheet metal, piping or process-equipment industries are encouraged to apply.
