AO4 Program Officer (Procurement)

Hays Recruitment are partnering with a Queensland Government department to recruit an AO4 Program Officer (Procurement). This is an excellent opportunity to join a team-oriented procurement team supporting the delivery of key infrastructure, operational and regional programs across North Queensland.
Based in either Cairns or Townsville, this role is offered as an initial 10-month contract with the possibility of a further 12-month extension, providing an excellent opportunity to build your procurement and contract administration experience within a large government environment.
Your new role
As the AO4 Program Officer (Procurement), you will provide high-level procurement support services to contract managers, project managers, program managers and team members, contributing to the timely and effective delivery of procurement activities across the North Queensland Region.
Working within a governance-focused environment, you will utilise a range of procurement systems, information management platforms and databases to support procurement operations while ensuring compliance with departmental policies, procedures and legislative requirements.
In this role, you will:
- Interpret and apply financial and procurement policies, procedures and legislative requirements to support compliant procurement outcomes
- Deliver assigned procurement activities and provide accurate procurement advice in alignment with departmental procurement frameworks and governance requirements
- Assist in the development and implementation of local work practices to meet operational needs while ensuring compliance obligations are maintained
- Identify and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance finance and procurement processes
- Provide professional advice and support regarding end-to-end procurement activities, including contract administration and contract management
- Monitor and review procurement activities,
including procurement documentation, evaluation processes, supplier engagement, negotiations and contract documentation
- Support procurement operations through accurate administration, reporting and information management practices
- Liaise, negotiate and communicate with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders regarding procurement processes, procedures and delegations
- Utilise a range of computer applications, procurement systems and databases to support procurement operations and reporting activities
- Contribute positively to team objectives and support the successful delivery of regional procurement outcomes
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will bring demonstrated procurement or business support experience, strong stakeholder engagement skills and a proactive approach to delivering quality outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
You will have:
- Experience in a procurement, contract administration, finance, project support or business support environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide professional advice to a diverse range of stakeholders
- Demonstrated experience collaborating with team members and stakeholders to resolve challenges and achieve positive outcomes
- Experience supporting end-to-end procurement activities, including contract administration and management
- High attention to detail, particularly in relation to data validation, reporting accuracy and governance requirements
- Strong organisational and time management skills,
with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
- Experience using a range of computer software applications, databases and information management systems
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively within established frameworks and procedures
