Bundaberg Regional Council is focused on sustainable growth, making the region an attractive destination for residents, visitors, and investors.Role Description This full-time, on-site Laboratory Manager role is based in Bundaberg, QLD and is responsible for overseeing daily operations of the Council's laboratory services.
The Laboratory Manager coordinates testing programs, ensures that laboratory procedures meet quality and regulatory standards, and manages the effective use, maintenance, and calibration of laboratory equipment.
The role includes supervising and mentoring laboratory staff, scheduling workloads, and maintaining accurate records and reporting for internal stakeholders and external bodies.
The Laboratory Manager collaborates with other Council departments on research, development,
and continuous improvement projects to support environmental monitoring, public health, and operational decision-making.
The position also requires developing and updating standard operating procedures, managing safety practices, and contributing to budget planning and resource allocation.Qualifications Strong laboratory skills and experience in managing day-to-day laboratory operations, including sample handling and testing.Demonstrated proficiency in quality control practices to ensure accurate, reliable, and compliant test results.Hands-on experience with a range of laboratory equipment, including maintenance, calibration, and safety procedures.Advanced analytical skills for interpreting data, troubleshooting issues, and preparing clear technical reports.Experience in research and development (R&D;), including method development, process improvement, and innovation in laboratory practices.Relevant tertiary qualification in laboratory science, chemistry, environmental science, or a related discipline.Previous supervisory or team leadership experience in a laboratory or technical environment.Knowledge of applicable safety, environmental, and quality standards, with a commitment to safe work practices.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.Competence in using laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and standard office software for data management and reporting.
