Evolve to Grow

Melbourne

Early-Stage eCommerce & Logistics Business
Our client is expanding nationally, fast.
They're looking for someone who wants to look back in 5 years time and genuinely say:
"I've built the operational systems that have enabled this business to grow beyond anything we could have imagined."
The business is in eCommerce challenging a traditional retail experience through a practical circular economy model.
They've built a loyal customer base by making everyday sustainable behaviour simpler, more convenient and more affordable.
The business is looking for new cities, more customers, more products and more people.
That means every improvement made today needs to continue working when the business is twice the size tomorrow.
You'll work directly alongside the founder to design an operation that becomes progressively simpler, more reliable and more scalable as the business grows.
You'll combine operational excellence with practical leadership, building not only better systems but also the team structure needed to support them.
The Mission
The purpose of this role isn't simply to keep operations running.
It's to continually redesign them so they become progressively simpler, more reliable and more scalable as the business grows.
You'll identify operational constraints, understand their root causes and design, build and implement systems that permanently improve how the business operates.
Success isn't measured by how many problems you personally solve.
Success is measured by how many problems no longer exist because you've built systems that prevent them from happening in the first place.
What You'll Do
Find the crux of our operational problems: Identify root causes using data, observation and practical investigation, before the problems arrive.
Design, Build, Implement: Design operational solutions across warehouse, logistics and inventory workflows.
Test your hypothesis, document procedures and KPIs.
Make It Stick: One of the hardest things in operations is making your procedures stick.
Once you've personally improved the metric and its holding, you'll be responsible for handing over processes for members of your team to own so the fix you designed stays around.
Build Your Team:

An operational machine is built on the people that fuel it.
You'll be responsible for designing the recruitment, onboarding and training systems that other people can execute.
Your first hire, an operations supervisor to assist you in realising your systems from a practical side.
Work alongside those who enable you: The founder has been closely involved in the operations since the start, they understand the complexities of the role and what's needed to get things done.
They'll be on your side to unlock your ideas rather than have them sit around for months waiting for approval.
About You
You'll probably thrive in this role if you naturally find yourself asking:
Why does this process exist?
Is there a better way to do this?
Will this still work when we're twice the size?
What's actually causing this problem?
How can we stop this issue from ever happening again?
You enjoy improving systems more than maintaining them.
Someone who walks through a warehouse, airport or supermarket and instinctively starts noticing how the operation could work better.
You get genuine satisfaction from removing unnecessary work rather than adding more processes.
You balance analytical thinking with practical implementation.
You're equally comfortable analysing data in the morning and moving warehouse shelving in the afternoon if that's what's required.
You enjoy working closely with founders in businesses where decisions happen quickly and ownership is real.
You're someone who finds satisfaction in making themselves progressively less essential because the systems they've built simply work.
Your Background
You've moved the needle: You've been responsible for taking a metric that embodies an operational problem or inefficiency, designed an improvement, tested it, launched it and shown the improvement in a measurable way.
You're strategic and practical:

You're comfortable understanding operations through spreadsheets and metrics and can translate those insights standing on the warehouse floor and understanding the practical side of your strategic efforts.
You've got substance: You've worked in environments that have given your operational expertise through practical experience, not just learning through Lean or Six Sigma.
We're much more interested inhow you thinkthan the exact title you've held, but to help communicate our needs, you have a degree in Engineering, Business, Supply Chain, Manufacturing and 5 years of professional experience in manufacturing, logistics, transport, warehousing, FMCG, eCommerce or another operationally intensive business in a role similar to:
Operational Excellence Lead
Continuous Improvement Specialist
Process Improvement Lead
Industrial Engineer
Supply Chain Analyst
Operations Analyst
Manufacturing Supervisor
Startup Operations Lead
Business Analyst (Operations)
Operations Manager
What Success Looks Like
After your first year:
The business has expanded into recent cities without operational complexity growing at the same rate.
New products and logistics models are launched
Operational problems are identified before they become major issues.
The warehouse runs more efficiently with less manual intervention.
Inventory accuracy continues improving.
Operations become increasingly reliable and scalable.
Operational decisions are driven by meaningful data rather than assumptions.
Recruitment, onboarding and operational procedures become repeatable systems rather than manager-dependent tasks.
The founder spends significantly less time involved in day-to-day operations because the systems you've built continue working without constant oversight.
What You'll Get
Work directly alongside the founder with genuine influence over the business.
High autonomy and the ability to implement your own ideas quickly.
A lean, collaborative environment where positive ideas become reality.
The opportunity to help shape a business as it expands nationally.
A practical sustainability mission with measurable impact.
