The role
Our Heavy Diesel Fitters are responsible for delivering a high level of support in the servicing, maintenance and repair of all machinery, plant, equipment and other Council-owned assets.
You will be based at Council's workshop in Mareeba, however, our plant and crews work all over the Shire which also means our Heavy Diesel Fitters may be required to work anywhere within the Shire when they have to go to the plant, instead of the plant coming to them.
This may include callouts and work which may require an overnight stay in Council-provided accommodation or rough camp environments.
This role involves undertaking physically demanding work in a hot and humid climate on a daily basis.
As such,
our Heavy Diesel Fitters need to ensure they are and remain physically fit and able to efficiently and consistently undertake these tasks.
This includes a requirement to maintain their weight at or below the Safe Working Load (SWL) limit for the seat of the machinery and equipment the position is required to operate.
The role will be subject to the satisfactory completion of a pre-employment medical assessment.
What we are looking for
We are seeking a skilled Heavy Diesel Fitter who demonstrates a commitment to excellence and teamwork.
You will have a:
Trade qualification in Mechanical Engineering (Heavy Diesel Fitter)
Current Queensland MR class driver's licence
Current High-Risk Work License for Forklift
Experience in servicing and repairing a wide range of plant and equipment, including earthmoving machinery, trucks, light vehicles and small engine equipment
Effective communication skills and basic computer literacy to support data entry and correspondence
The ideal candidate will thrive in a team environment, possess a proactive approach to problem solving and adhere to all health and safety regulations in the workplace.
What we can offer you
Permanent, full-time position
ENG Level C8
Base pay of $78,791 per annum comprised of base wage and allowances and an Above Award Payment
Plus paid overtime where applicable
5 weeks annual leave with 17.5% leave loading
