The Paruku IPA Coordinator will work together with the Paruku Ranger Coordinator and Tjurabalan Traditional Owners to ensure the IPA is managed by Traditional Owners in a manner consistent with customary law and the Paruku IPA Management Plan.
They will achieve this by working in close partnership with the ranger team, other KLC staff, cultural advisors, the PBC and Advisory Group, as well as external project partners, on activities ranging from strategic planning and cross-functional collaborations to on-ground conservation and land management and monitoring.
The position is based in Kununurra with DIDO to Mulan Community on a regular basis.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties
EnsuretheParukuIPAismanagedbyTjurabalanTraditionalOwners,throughactiveengagement of the IPA Advisory Group and regular involvement with the PBC, in a manner consistent withcustomary law and the Paruku IPA Management Plan.This includes convening regular IPA Advisory Groupmeetingstoreportbackandseekdirection,includingonbroaderstrategicobjectives
Coordinate the management of the IPAand drive the implementation of the Paruku IPA ManagementPlan through development and delivery of operational plans in close collaboration withtheIPAAdvisoryGroup,ParukuRangerGroupandotherstaffandprojectpartners.Manage budgetsforeffective projectandprogramdelivery, leveragingassistance fromother KLC staff.
Enhancecommunityownership,involvementandcapacitytosupporttheIPAthroughpursuitof opportunitiestomaximiseemployment,skillsdevelopment,effectivegovernance,andpromotion of IPA values and objectives:
Engageeldersandyouthinrecordingandfacilitatingthetransferoflanguage,traditional knowledge, customs, and practices.
Overseeuseand improvementoftheIPAPermit systemtomanagetourismimpactsand support development of a tourism strategy.
Manage existing relationships and facilitate proactive engagement withproject partners,



including researchbodiesandNGOs,inordertoensureappropriatemanagementandconservationoftheIPA and its unique habitats, fauna and flora.
This will include working with the Night Parrot WorkingGroup and other threatened species experts.
Work together with theParuku Ranger Coordinator and Ranger teamon joint IPA activities,including, monitoring and evaluation.
SupportplanninganddeliveryofIndigenousRangerProgram objectivesandoperationalactivities,includingassistancewithevents,suchasback-to-countrytrips,fee-for-service opportunities,aswellasstrategicplanninginareassuchasvisitorandculturalsitemanagement.
Oversee existing commitments and identify new funding streams, grants and partnershipsto enhanceandpromotesustainableoutcomesfortheIPAinlinewithTraditionalOwneraspirations.
Prepare IPA and project mid-year and annual reports
Maintain compliance with KLC policies, processes and procedures
Actively contribute to the heath and safety of the workplace by adhering to all health and safety policies and procedures
Demonstrate an awareness of and commitment to the KLC Vision and its Values
Participate in relevant training and career development activities

Essential
Qualification(s)in Natural Resource Management / Anthropology / Ecology / Social Sciences / Community Development orotherrelevantfield.
Extensive practical experience in related fields may be considered;
Experienceand confidence working with Aboriginal land/sea managers and communities, and a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with Aboriginal people;




Understandingand knowledge of Aboriginal social and cultural challenges in Northern or Central Australia and willingness to commit to community empowerment, training and development;
Acollaborative attitude with a high degree of integrity and an ability to work well in a team, independently, and with colleagues and partners across the region and country;
Excellentverbal and written communication skills including the ability to write reports for a range of audiences and to communicate sensitively and effectively with both indigenous and non-indigenous stakeholders;
Abilityto manage a broad range of stakeholders with diverging or conflicting views and interests;
Practicalexperience in consensus building and participatory methods of governance.
Currentvalid driver's licence (manual);
WesternAustralian Working with Children Check (WWC) or ability to obtain one.
Understandingof native title, land tenure, and community governance
Experienceworking with community development in a cross-cultural setting
