THE BUSINESS
A privately held, rapidly scaling supplier of underground mining consumables, headquartered in Perth and trading across Australia, Asia and Africa.
THE ROLE
The Financial Controller is the single point of financial control for the group and owns the financial truth of the business.
You will lead the Finance, Business Systems and Contracts functions, sit as the lead commercial voice in the Operations Team, and give the CFO and leadership the forward visibility they need to protect margin and convert profit into cash.
This is a hands-on controllership role in a lean function.
You will own the numbers rather than prepare them, turn finance from reporting into foresight, and surface risk early rather than explain it late — operating to a strict "no surprises to the CFO" standard.
Your three defining accountabilities
Accountability
What ownership actually means
Debt facility & covenants
Day-to-day ownership of the secured facility — drawdowns, availability, borrowing base, compliance calendar.
Calculate, monitor and forecast every covenant (minimum cash, leverage, DSCR / interest cover, working-capital ratio, debtor days) with headroom projected forward, never reported after the fact.
Own the lender relationship as the credible day-to-day finance contact.
Cash flow & treasury
Own, maintain and continually improve the rolling 13-week cash flow forecast as the primary instrument of financial control — weekly cadence, disciplined actual-vs-forecast variance analysis, clear commentary on drivers and risks.
Manage liquidity, FX exposure across AUD/USD, payment and drawdown timing.
Working capital
Own the cash-conversion cycle end to end.
Set and drive targets for debtor days, creditor days and inventory turns.
Drive collections discipline, payables timing and inventory release, and produce decision-grade working-capital reporting that shows the true net position and drives action.
And alongside them
•Month-end and year-end closeacross all entities — accurate, on time, fully reconciled, no rework.
•Board- and lender-grade reporting— P&L;, balance sheet, cash flow, covenant position, variance and forward commentary that the CFO, MD, Board and financier can trust and act on.
•Budgeting, forecasting and commercial support— modelling the cash and covenant impact of new contracts before commitments are made; margin, pricing and contract profitability partnering.
•Statutory, tax and transfer pricingacross AU and international jurisdictions (Big 4 supported; ATO engagement live), external audit, trade credit insurance and insurance renewals.
•Systems and data— ownership of the finance modules of a mid-market ERP, data integrity, and the evolution of the group's reporting and BI capability.
•Team leadership through change— hold, stabilise and lift a lean finance function across AU and international, with named ownership, transparent deadlines and objective success criteria.
WHAT WE ARE SELECTING FOR
Essential
•Genuine debt-facility and covenant ownership. You have lived a secured facility with covenants — owning the calculation, the headroom, the lender reporting and the compliance certificates.
Not observed one from a distance.
This, with cash-flow ownership, is the single most important capability for this role.
•Cash-flow and working-capital ownership. You have run a rolling 13-week cash flow forecast and actively managed working capital against a facility, treating cash conversion as a core performance metric.
•CA / CPA qualifiedwith proven Financial Controller experience where you owned the numbers, not just prepared them.
•A no-surprises temperament.You understand minimum-cash, working-capital ratio,
DSCR and leverage covenants, and you surface risk early — with solutions attached.
Never late, never smoothed over.
•Robust month-end and control.Accurate, on-time close with full reconciliations and no rework.
•Board-grade reporting.Reporting a CFO and MD can take to a Board and a lender without rework.
•Leadership through transition. You can hold and lift a finance function through change and growth — not merely administer a stable one.
Highly desirable
• Multi-entity, multi-currency and international finance experience including intercompany.
• Pronto Xi, or a comparable mid-market ERP with strong systems discipline; BI / data-warehouse reporting capability.
• Exposure to transfer pricing and intercompany treatment.
• Resources, distribution or industrial-sector background.
Product knowledge is welcome, not essential.
WHAT YOU GET
• A genuine controllership — full ownership of close, cash, covenants and control, with autonomy inside a clear decision-rights framework and a documented operating agreement with the CFO.
• Direct line of sight to the CFO, MD, Board and lender.
Your work is seen, used and acted on.
• A business growing fast enough that the quality of your cash discipline visibly determines how rapid it can grow.
• Competitive base + superannuation, commensurate with experience.
Perth-based, office-based, Monday to Friday.
