About SAFESCOPE Consulting
SAFESCOPE Consulting is a specialist health, safety and risk consulting business.
We're currently partnering with a major chemical processing and refinery operation in Kwinana, aligned to the energy transition space, to recruit a Health & Safety Advisor for their Processing Operations team.
About the opportunity
This is a genuinely field-based role.
You'll be embedded with Processing and Maintenance teams, acting as a trusted safety partner to frontline leaders — coaching, influencing and supporting safe operational decision-making on the ground, not managing compliance from behind a desk.
What you'll be doing
Providing hands-on health and safety support to Processing and Maintenance teams, including contractors
Coaching Frontline Supervisors and Operators on Permit to Work, isolations (LOTO), SIMOPS and critical risk controls
Maintaining a strong field presence through regular Time in Field — identifying risks, reinforcing secure behaviours and providing real-time coaching
Facilitating risk assessments, JHAs and pre-task planning, and verifying the effectiveness of critical controls
Supporting the implementation and continual improvement of the site's Mines Safety Management System (MSMS)
Leading and supporting incident and near-miss investigations with a learning-focused, systems-based approach
Conducting inspections, audits and verification activities, and monitoring compliance with WHS legislation and Dangerous Goods requirements
Analysing safety data and trends to drive continuous improvement in operational safety performance
What you'll bring
5–8+ years' health and safety advisory experience in complex chemical processing plants, refineries or Major Hazard Facilities (e.g. alumina, nickel, lithium, chemical manufacturing)
Tertiary qualification in WHS, OHS, Engineering, Science or a related discipline (or equivalent demonstrated experience)
Strong working knowledge of Permit to Work systems, isolation/energy control, SIMOPS and task-based risk assessment
Sound understanding of WHS legislation and regulatory requirements for processing and refinery operations
Formal training in risk management, incident investigation and hazard identification
The ability to influence without authority and build credible relationships with operators, supervisors, engineers and contractors
A current C Class driver's licence
Highly regarded
MHF operating environment experience
Knowledge of process safety principles, critical risk verification or Bowtie-based control frameworks
ICAM, TapRooT or similar systems-based investigation qualifications
Shutdown, turnaround or brownfield/greenfield project experience
Previous experience in WA processing operations
What's on offer
Permanent, Monday–Friday role — no FIFO, no roster
Salary circa $140,000 + super
A mature, high-integrity safety environment with a genuine process safety focus
Real operational impact in a business connected to the energy transition
Please note:applicants must hold permanent work rights in Australia.
