The Governance and Policy Officer is responsible for ensuring that appropriate systems of Corporate and Civic Governance are operating effectively across the organisation.
Reporting to the Director Corporate Services, key responsibilities include:
Providing clear and accurate Governance advice, guidance, and support to Elected Members, the CEO and senior staff specific to their roles, decision-making, and statutory requirements
Maintaining various Governance related registers and data
Coordinating Council & Committee Agenda preparation, attending and recording minutes for Council, Committee Meetings, and other meetings as required
Delivering clear governance and procedural advice in formal public meetings
Developing Governance induction materials to assist with recent staff onboarding programs




Administering systems to ensure that the Council meets its legal obligations
Ongoing development of a framework linking Council's statutory requirements and corporate policies and procedures to ensure accountability and transparency, legislative compliance, and alignment with strategic direction
Liaising with the Office of the Ombudsman SA, Office of Public Integrity and other government departments as required
Maintaining, managing and reviewing Council's Policy Register and frameworks ensuring best practice
Facilitating timely policy development and reviews which align with Council's strategic direction and legislative obligations.
You will be customer service oriented with the ability to quickly develop strong working relationships with the CEO, Elected Members, staff and the community.
Proven ability to maintain develop relationships as a trusted advisor, ensure confidentiality, prepare draft correspondence and reports, and demonstrated research, analysis and report writing skills will be essential.
Previous governance experience ideally from a local government or similar setting, high attention to detail, meeting preparation, minute taking and agenda preparation, and high computer literacy will be critical to success.
This position will be required to perform work out-of-hours, including attendance at regular council and other meetings.
