About the role
We are seeking an experiencedSenior Communications Officerto join our dynamic communications team.
In this role, you will be responsible for developing and executing comprehensive communications strategies that effectively engage our community, staff, and stakeholders.
As Senior Communications Officer, you will play a crucial part in shaping the Town's public image and ensuring clear, consistent messaging across all platforms.
This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on community engagement and organisational communications at a strategic level.

Key responsibilities
Developing and implementing integrated communications strategies and campaigns aligned with the Town's strategic objectives
Coordinating internal communications to ensure consistent messaging and staff engagement
Creating engaging content for multiple channels including social media, websites, newsletters, media releases and print materials
Managing the Town's digital communications presence and overseeing day-to-day social media engagement
Liaising with media outlets and managing media relations, including preparing and distributing media releases
Producing high-quality written and visual content that meets brand guidelines and resonates with diverse audiences




Managing communications projects from conception through to delivery and evaluation
Monitoring and analysing communications effectiveness, providing insights and recommendations for improvement
Supporting community engagement initiatives and coordinating communications for special events and projects
Mentoring junior communications staff and contributing to the development of team capabilities
What we're looking for
Tertiary qualification in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience
Minimum 5 years' experience in a communications, marketing or public relations role, ideally within the public or local government sector
Demonstrated expertise in developing and executing communications strategies that achieve measurable outcomes
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to tailor messages for diverse audiences
Proficiency in social media management and digital marketing platforms
Experience in producing multimedia content including photography, videography or graphic design, or the ability to brief designers and producers effectively
Sound knowledge of media relations and experience in preparing media releases and managing media enquiries
Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple communications initiatives simultaneously
Proficiency in using communications and content management systems
Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management abilities
Sound understanding of local government operations,



legislation and compliance requirements (desirable)
Experience in community engagement and public consultation processes
