The Role




The HV Technician reports directly to the Service Team Lead and is responsible for the safe, reliable and high-quality delivery of high voltage inspection, testing, maintenance, commissioning and fault response activities across Beyond Electrical Engineering (BEE) projects, service contracts and client sites.
This is a technical field role, accountable for performing and leading complex HV works in accordance with legislation, client requirements, BEE procedures, safety systems and industry standards. The role supports service delivery through technical expertise, clear communication with clients and project teams, and proactive identification of operational and electrical risks.
Responsibilities for the role include:
Performing HV inspection, testing, maintenance, commissioning and fault-finding activities on electrical assets and systems.
Completing works on HV equipment including switchgear, transformers, protection systems, cables, substations and associated control systems.
Ensuring switching, isolation, access and testing activities are conducted in accordance with relevant legislation, network rules, client requirements and authorised procedures.
Reviewing work methods, test results and site conditions to support sound technical decisions.
Supporting troubleshooting and fault response activities, including diagnosis, rectification planning and return-to-service recommendations.
Preparing accurate test reports, service records, commissioning documentation, defect reports and handover information.
Providing practical technical input into job planning, outage preparation, resource requirements and work sequencing.
Communicating progress, risks, defects and technical issues clearly to the Service Team Lead, project teams and clients.
Assist with Development, reviewing and executing HV test plans,



including identifying required test activities, equipment, safety controls, acceptance criteria and reporting requirements to ensure testing is completed safely, accurately and in accordance with client specifications and standards.
Qualifications / Experience:
Current Australian drivers licence
HV Switching Ticket / HV Operating Ticket
Willingness to travel to remote project and client site locations
Electrical trade qualification and demonstrated experience working safely in high voltage industrial, utility, infrastructure or renewable energy environments.
3-5 Years minimum post trade experience in HV inspection, testing, maintenance, commissioning and fault-finding activities.
Sound knowledge of HV equipment, systems and secure work practices, including switching, isolation, access permits and test procedures.
Ability to interpret drawings, schematics, implement protection settings, test plans, manuals and technical documentation.
Experience with electrical testing equipment and the preparation of accurate test reports, service records and commissioning documentation for the following -
Protection relay testing
Primary and secondary injection testing
CT/VT Testing
Circuit breaker timing and contact resistance testing
Transformer testing
Demonstrated ability to identify hazards, assess risk and apply controls in high-risk electrical work.
