Simcoa Operations Pty Ltd
, located near the port city of Bunbury approximately 200km south of Perth, operates Australia's only Silicon Metal Smelter, incorporating a sawmill, high temperature charcoal plant, submerged electric arc furnaces, grinding plant, crushing and screening facilities and an off-gas filtration/fume collection bag-house. With a continuous usage of 42MW, we are one of Western Australia's largest electrical consumers.
Simcoa is inviting a Metallurgist or Chemical / Process Engineer with 5+ years' experience to join the small, dynamic team that runs the Silicon Smelter. Our roles continuously evolve to adapt to the changing times, and to allow each person's strengths to be used to the benefit of the business. The collective knowledge of the group allows us to overcome all challenges that arise in an ever-changing environment. Each member needs to be able to work independently and be self-driven while being a part of a supportive and co-operative smelter team. For the right candidate, there is the prospect to be involved in projects in other departments and future leadership opportunities.
The position undertakes process optimisation, investigates process variance and recommends/implements corrective actions as necessary, ensures quality control, and daily / monthly reporting, provides timely production, efficiency, and cost reports. Communicate ideas and changes in the operating process effectively,
such that all team members are involved and have a chance to communicate their opinions. Cultivate a culture within the workplace that embraces safety awareness by practising and communicating a safety-first mentality.
The successful candidate will have:
Degree in Metallurgy (BSc) or Chemical / Process Engineering or equivalent
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Resilience, ability to adapt and be adaptable with changing and competing priorities
Ability to influence others, accept individual accountability, and manage time and workload effectively
An ability to communicate clearly and effectively – written and oral
Strong interpersonal skills
A genuine interest to move into a leadership role in the mid to long term
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate some of:
Production planning, forecasting and optimisation for resource utilisation and unit cost
Initiative to identify production inefficiencies, investigate, and apply practical solutions
Detail oriented and strong Technical Report writing
Exposure to non-ferrous metal smelting or pyrometallurgy, and heavy industry is desirable
Exposure to Wonderware Historian, SQL data management, and Power BI or other visualisation software is desirable
Strong computer literacy with advanced MS Excel
Reporting to Smelter Management, an attractive package, commensurate with the experience and qualifications of the candidate will be offered.
