The Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF) is a Commonwealth Government financier, providing financial support to advance the development of infrastructure projects in northern Australia and the Indian Ocean Territories.
We help grow economies and populations and encourage private sector investment across a range of sectors including resources, agriculture and water, energy, financing partnerships, social infrastructure, and transport and logistics.
We support projects that deliver public benefit to the north, through recent jobs, regional income, business for local suppliers and Indigenous outcomes across northern Australia.
NAIF has a $7 billion allocation of funds and has committed over $4.5 billion to support 35 projects in Queensland, Northern Territory and Western Australia.
About the Role
Reporting to the Chief Legal and Sustainability Officer, this is a part-time (0.8) or full-time position depending on your level of experience.
The role will support the delivery of NAIF's sustainability function, contributing to NAIF meeting its mandatory Commonwealth Climate Disclosure obligations and delivering the NAIF's Sustainability Strategy.
The role will also contribute to strengthening accountability, consistency and resilience in NAIF's sustainability resourcing model, supporting clear ownership of sustainability deliverables and assessments of future investment proposals.
With experience gained from your time within the finance, construction or infrastructure sectors, this role will provide you with the chance to take that next step in your career.

Location
NAIF has a strong preference to recruit employees based in Northern Australia, reflecting our purpose and the communities we serve.
This role is ideally located in Cairns, however we will consider applicants from other locations where this supports securing the best candidate.
Responsibilities
Support the implementation of NAIF's inaugural three year Sustainability Strategy and the development and execution of sustainable and transition investment strategies.
Manage the review and implementation of sustainable investment policies, frameworks, and methodologies to integrate ESG considerations into investment and enterprise decision-making processes.
Liaise with the Investment Team advising of relevant sustainability benchmarks, including our annual disclosures.
Embed sustainability factors into investment analysis, portfolio management and decision-making processes.
Monitor market trends and regulatory developments in sustainable finance, providing strategic insights and adapting investment strategies to emerging risks and opportunities in line with evolving ESG frameworks.
Ensure compliance with NAIF's risk management framework, risk appetite statement, risk policies and procedures.
Regular reporting on sustainability metrics, impact measurements and progress towards strategic sustainability initiatives.
Assess the impact of ESG factors on proponent financial performance, risk management, and long-term value creation.
Identify, record, and manage risks which may affect the achievement of the role's objectives.
Report significant risks and incidents to the People Leader to inform planning, decision making creating a positive reporting culture.
Contribute to a positive risk culture within NAIF.
Contribute to entity wide initiatives as needed.
About you
You are an emerging sustainability professional looking to take the next step in your career and broaden your experience across strategy, reporting, governance and sustainable finance.
You have developed a solid foundation in sustainability, ESG, climate risk and reporting, responsible investment, infrastructure, government,
consulting or a related field and are now seeking an opportunity to apply your skills in a purpose-led development financier.
You are intellectually curious, highly organised and comfortable working with both detailed information and strategic issues.
You enjoy collaborating with others, influencing outcomes and translating complex sustainability concepts into practical advice for decision-makers.
You have strong written and verbal communication skills and can build deep, productive relationships across diverse stakeholder groups.
Ideally, you will bring:
Experience in sustainability, ESG, climate risk, sustainable finance, responsible investment, infrastructure, government, consulting or a related discipline.
An understanding of sustainability reporting, climate disclosure requirements and emerging ESG frameworks.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to model and interpret data and support informed decision-making.
Experience preparing reports, briefings, presentations or other high-quality written materials.
A collaborative mindset, sound judgement and the ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
Relevant tertiary qualifications in sustainability, environmental management, finance, economics, law, public policy, governance, business or a related discipline.
