About this Position
The primary role of the Community & Family Partnerships Officer is to effectively engage, and map-out/conduct need-based analysis in collaboration with various communities to identify communities' priorities and jointly develop a strategy and activities plan underpinned by the African Village Framework to support the communities.
This role is central to VSL's mission of assisting people of African heritage and others to overcome systemic barriers, recover from past injustices, trauma or adversities.
Duties and responsibilities
· In collaboration with local community and services, plan and implement families, youth and community social activities that create spaces for inclusion, belonging and empowerment cross including community forums, BBQs, events and sports across North Queensland.
· Plan and implement local quarterly
Community Leadership and Advocacy Platform), (CLAP)
– a dinner for advocates and leaders to discuss issues of importance to families and communities.
· Consult with parents, families and the local community across North Queensland to identify key issues and ideas to support mental health and wellbeing and educational engagement.
· Organise and facilitate cultural, traditional and social games at local community hubs or outdoor on weekends.
· Collect relevant data and complete the report timely on all the activities.
· Consult and collaborate with youth mentors and Women's Group Facilitators and management to identify broader community needs and recommend on activities that could improve community social cohesion and wellbeing.
· Assist with other programs across the Village Support Limited's where possible and asked by the management.
· In collaboration with local schools and families, set up VSL's homework clubs.

Essential qualifications
At least a Diploma or bachelor's degree in social sciences or Community Service,
Requirements
· Blue Card (Working with Children)
· Police Screening Clearance (or willingness to obtain)
· Valid QLD Driver's Licence
