We have an exciting opportunity for a
Kitchen Assistant(Floating)
to join our WellFood team at Ashburton Hospital.
This unique andvaried role offers a mix of food service, administration, café support, andkitchen duties, making it ideal for someone who enjoys learning new skills andno two days being the same.
Working within our busy hospitality service, you'll helpsupport the delivery of nutritious meals to patients while ensuring highstandards of food safety, customer service, and operational efficiency.
About the Role
As a Floating Kitchen Assistant, you'll work across avariety of functions including:
Assistingwith meal preparation, assembly, plating, and distribution
SupportingMeals on Wheels (MOW) administration and database management
Coordinatingpatient menu selections and dietary requirements
Participatingin trayline operations for hospital and Meals on Wheels services
Providingrelief support within the hospital café when required
Assistingwith stock control, stocktakes, and inventory management
Maintaininghigh standards of food safety, hygiene, and infection prevention
Supportingkitchen operations through dishwashing, cleaning,



and general kitchenduties
Accuratelymanaging electronic records, client information, and documentation
This is a highly varied role that requires flexibility,adaptability, and a willingness to assist across multiple areas of thedepartment.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
Experiencein a kitchen, food service, catering, or hospitality environment
Soundunderstanding of food safety and hygiene practices
Strongcomputer and keyboard skills with confidence using electronic systems
Excellentorganisational and time management skills
Highattention to detail and accuracy
Abilityto work independently and prioritise tasks
Apositive attitude and strong teamwork skills
Excellentcommunication and customer service abilities
FoodSafety Certificate (NZQA Unit Standards 167 & 168)
Experiencein a healthcare food service environment
Administrativeexperience, preferably within health services
Experiencewith stock management or inventory control
Willingnessto undertake further training and Service IQ qualifications
Working at Health New Zealand
